Window Bench With Storage

Monica
by Monica
I always loved window benches and the bay window in my living room looked perfect for a comfy bench.
My husband and I decided to build it ourselves.
We started off by building the skeleton.
We added the front panel from inside so the squares would be visible.
Hinged the lids and used filler for any visible cut.
I started painting. We decided to paint the front panel and top with different colours. The colours used are: Misty Mink for the top and Melrose Abbey for the front (Valspar).
Added some Poppy stencils (Annie Sloan) and sewed big cushions.
View from the top.
Gave a distressed look using "Luminous eye shadow" finishing (by van Gogh). Then used clear varnish.
Only thing left now is to find the right fabric to cover the cushions.

Hi Monica, I would like to ask what size wood you used for your frame? 2" x 4" or 1" x 4"? I am looking to make one of these window seats and keep the costs down but, I love the beauty and simplicity of yours where as every other plan that I have seen is super heavy duty, expensive and uses alot more wood. Thank you so much for any help you can provide. Most Sincerely, Michele

Monica...could you find some fabric a shade lighter than the wood tint...then use the same little poppy stencil to stamp poppies on your fabric in an off white shade. Then make your seat cushions out of that?

I think that our next project will actually be our bay window! it is very small, but that is where I have most of my plants because they love the western exposure! My hubby just said this past week that he was thinking of expanding the bay window!!! I really want a window seat. I grew up with one in our dining room in my parent home, and...gasp... our bay window is in our dining room! karma! anyway we are in the process of redoing our front bath right now, but as soon as that is done, it is one to the bay window!!

I am so happy about my cozy window seat, my kids love it. A cup of coffee and a book, I'd spend hours sitting on it
