DIY Farmhouse Christmas Tote

This old antique tote was hanging around in our barn.
It needed something!
With Christmas fast approaching I decided to stencil the side of the tote and decorated it for the holidays.
I gathered up my Farmhouse stencil from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils, paint, stencil brush, and tape.
The tote needed to be tilted up so I leaned it against this antique mortiser.

I lined up the stencil and used Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.

When it comes to stenciling keep your brush dry and tap up and down.

Dab your brush into the paint and then tap it onto something else before you start to stencil.

You just want to make sure you brush is not loaded with wet paint that will bleed under the stencil.
You can distress your letters with some fine grit sand paper if you want them to look worn.

I tend to skip this step letting the words pop off the old wood.
The beauty of this tote is that you can use it year around.

It would be perfect with a few little pots of lavender or simply a tote for mail.
