I was part of an ornament exchange and decided to make some deer head ornaments, since deer are so popular right now. These were pretty simple to put together.
I started out by finding a deer silhouette on Google images. I looked for one that was fairly simple since I was going to be cutting the shape out of felt. I also bought some white felt, 3 white small wooden plaques from Michael's, ribbon and other small decorations.
I did add a little bit to the neck of the deer so I would have enough to attach to the wooden plaques.
I cut out the shape from the paper print out and then traced it onto one of the pieces of felt.
I stacked two pieces of felt with a piece of cardstock in between. The cardstock will give the pieces some stiffness later. I paper-clipped all the pieces together so they wouldn't slide apart while cutting. Then I cut the pieces out.
Here are the 3 pieces, 2 from felt and one from cardstock.
I glued all 3 pieces together with the cardstock in the middle. Once the pieces were dry, I trimmed the edges so everything was even and the edges were clean. I spread the ends of the neck apart a little bit and glued it onto the wooden plaque.
I added different trim to each one and glued a ribbon on the back to hang it from.
