Dollar Tree mini Christmas tree - any creative ideas?

MariaErica
by MariaErica
Hello Everyone!!! There have been some really great posts on this site for dollar tree & inexpensive Xmas decor projects. I've seen a lot of these small (about a foot tall), sparse, tabletop xmas trees at the dollar store & other discount stores recently. Has anyone found any interesting ways to either repurpose or use these in other projects? Other than spray painting them, I'm at a loss of ideas. Any thoughts on how you can use/reimagine these? Thanks for the help in advance!!!

Why not bells. You can buy them at Michaels. They come in red ,green, blue silver and gold. Tie them on with thin ribbon.

FYI-I just left Dollar Tree and they also have them indifferent sizes and colors. All I saw at this store was a lost lonely tree without all its parts sitting in a pile of other last minute

"changed my minds". Don't know if you want bright or not, but DT has a lot to choose from either way.

Let me start with a question, are you wanting to keep it a tree?

If you are not, then you could

*cut the branches off and weave it into a wreath

*cut the branches off and put them in a vase and add some flowers, holly, or light up branches

*cut the branches off, weave them together as a wreath and put them around a candle

*cut the base off, put a bow on the base that you can hang it upside down on a front door, re-angle the branches downward towards the point, glue in some berries, bulbs, add some batter operated lights, and you could make it a door "spray".

*buy one red bulb and make it a Charlie Brown tree

*cut the branches off and weave them in a shape of a snow flake and hang it up. You could spray it with fake snow as well.

If you need more ideas, let me know. :)

why not fill it in with green garland, then add mini lights and decorations ( if you like, spray paint it and incorporate the same color garland ( get fancy with it) Happy holidays to you

sorry I did not read to the end about spry painting!! oops!!! I just thought of another Idea as well, take a thin piece of wire, form an outline of the tree, (attaching it from limb to limb) adding mini light, then cover it with your favorite light weigh fabric. LOOKS PRETTY IN MY HEAD!!!

You can load it up with lottery scratch offs and give away as a Xmas gift

Sounds like a good idea. But if they hit the jackpot, I'm going to claim at least half of the winnings ;-)

I decorate one every year with a theme. I have liked the snowmen the best. It fits on my bathroom counter and provides a cheery nightlight.

I used to make mini decorated trees as gifts. First, I'd get a set of battery operated lights and put them half way deep on the branches. Then, I'd get some "snow" from the craft store and paint it on the ends of half of the branches sporadically. Next, I'd make little bows and hot glue them on the end a third of the branches here and there. Finally, I'd hot glue tiny ornaments on half of the branches that were still bare. As a topper I'd always use a gold or silver star.

Years ago I remember seeing in a catalogue sort of a stick type of tree that had interchangeable decorations. It was a mini type of tree and had decorations for Christmas, New Years, Valentines, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, and on down the line. This way the tree was in use all year around. I always liked that idea.

I make table top trees and find if you put 2 of these trees together they look quite nice and have a fullness that is more acceptable and looks great decorated. Hope this helps

Use items like small toys, that one dangle earring that lost its mate ,a cork from a party ...just little things what I call doodads .....that you find around the house ....I made one one year after my my grandfather passed away ....we found a box of little items he would find working as a church usher/ handyman no-one claimed ...so there was a little duck ,next to a papa smurf, next to a cartoon character I never placed etc ...plus I added my own like a souvenir keychain ...it resembles a big family tree with that collection of odd ornaments one collects over the years : )

I have a tree about the same size and I keep it up year round! I decorate it according to the month. July 4th with little flags and red/white/blue flag garland. Valentines, of course is easy. Every month there is some sort of holiday, though some are not really well known.

A couple of years ago I bought these trees and some frames. I placed velvet on the cardboard that comes with the frame and placed it back in the frame. I then took the tree and flattened it and hot glued it to the velvet covered cardboard. I saved room at the bottom of the tree for a tree stand which was the box that held the batteries for the lights. I then fluffed out the branches and strung the lights and then decorated the branches with jewelry from my Mom that was given to me when she passed away. I gave one to each of my three siblings for Christmas that year. I also put glue on the battery box and sprinkled it with glitter. I also included easels for them to display it.

Have you ever made dough ornaments? Pick a theme and get some friends over for hot chocolate and create. Paint after baking. As mentioned, it could be a valentine tree, Fourth of July tree, pumpkin tree. I like Kim's idea too to use old jewelry.

Use the little clip on birds you can get at Craft stores or Christmas Shops and make a year round bird tree. Add little red bows or imitation red berries for Christmas.

Since it already looks like Charlie Brown tree why not add one red ball ornament and use a throw around bottom?
