An outdated jewelry valet...like this one, with a padded top...is SO perfectly repurposed into a compact sewing kit.

I spotted this outdated jewelry box/valet in the thrift store clutter. I didn't want it to hold my baubles, but rather my bobbins!
Because I'm me, I gave it a coat of paint- something splashy and fun. But I didn't want to paint the padded tapestry top, so I taped it off.

I did a little re-engineering inside, like removing the ring-holders to create a cubby for my bobbins.
After filling it with sewing notions- needles, measuring tape, thimbles, seam rippers- I added straight pins to the built-in pin cushion.
SO perfect, right? I mean, it makes so much more sense as a sewing kit if you ask me. And it really can hold quite a bit.
I love how it turned out and it's so handy. Plus, it looks nice enough to leave out, as if it were decorative. If I didn't need it, it would make a great gift for a sewist, too! Definitely perfect for the upcoming holidays.
