Painting Behind an Aquarium

Question

I would like to paint a wall that is currently the home of a 90 gallon aquarium with a large cabinet stand.  It covers most of the wall so I could just paint around it and it wouldn't be noticable from straight on.  But, a side view shows the wall behind it, and that is the view guests see as they walk in our front door.  Anyone have experience painting behind an immovable piece of furniture?

Buy a Swiffer Sweeper with the disposable pads.  Yeah.  THAT one.  Slip a sock over the rubberized pad and dip slightly into paint that has been poured into a paint pan.    The head not only will fit, but swivel when necessary.   and.........................NO MESS TO CLEAN UP.

I use a small thin roller with an extension. Drape newspaper on the back of the aquarium and cabinet so not to get paint on them. I've done this painting behind radiators. Also drape some folded paper to cover the baseboard, carpet, and tape on each side to hold it in place. You can also try to cover the outlet with tape.

I'm with William.  I use the same process, small thin roller with a long handle to paint behind toilets, so I know this will work for you.  You can cover your tank with a large trash bag and easily remove it when you're done.  Best of luck.

Use a slim paint roller with an extension handle. Wrap the aquarium & stand with plastic wrap or clear wrap used to move. This protects while allowing you to paint. Used same trick to paint behind a toilet.

Hi, if a thin roller fits behind that's great if not I have carefully painted behind immovable plumbing features (and radiators) using a radiator paintbrush. A non angled one was also good to have on hand.

Hi.....I had 9 55 gal tanks. The best thing I did was buy inexpensive mirrors and glues them on the back. Made the tanks look much bigger. Good Luck.

You could also glue a paint stir stick to a flat paint pad and use that to paint behind, not as thick as a roller and they have the long sticks for five gallon buckets.

Don't be so lazy. Siphon and empty the aquarium down to 4-5 inches and move away from the wall; cover so fumes don't bother the fish. Good time to clean the aquarium. Kill two fish with one stone so to speak. LOL

It looks like you could get a foam roller back there with an extension pole. That would take care of the wall. What about the trim?

Thanks. I was able to fit a roller back there....ironically this summer our house flooded and the floor needed replaced so we went through the work to move the whole aquarium. The wall and trim were painted then.

Do not attempt to move a tank with ANY amount of water in it. The tanks can't handle the lateral movement. Paint in place as recommended above.
