Repurpose Those Cute Little Girl Tights Into Something Equally as Cute

When my granddaughter outgrew her colorful patterned tights I wanted to repurpose them in some meaningful way. I decided to turn them into a soft octopus stuffed toy for her using a variety of colors and patterns.
Collect outgrown tights. The brighter the better.
Cut 8 legs off at top .
Stuff each leg well with Poly-fill.
Cut 8" circle from the top of any of the tights.

Cut circle out of top section of one pair of tights, about 8" in diameter. This will become base of head to attach leg/tenticles to.
Hand stitch the top section of another pair into a dome shape to form the octopuses head. Leave wasteband open.
Now with the circle you cut earlier, begin stitching the elastic waistband to the circle and incorporate the open ends of the eight legs as you go. This part can be tricky, but you can do it! You're almost done.
Embroider a smile, glue on two google eyes and a pom-pom on top.
What fun!

The octopus is fantastic. My daughter loves over-the-knee socks and I have been trying to figure out how to cut and put elastic in to keep them up. Any suggestions?
