If you have spent anytime on the internet looking at the current trends for dining tables you know that weathered reclaimed rustic wood is a must! Mmmm! We're all about these trends, but we prefer to buy used high quality furniture instead of new particle board furniture that won't hold up for long. But sometimes because of repairs on furniture we aren't able to strip and re-stain wood to match the must have farmhouse styles! When we bought these chairs, they had holes where leg braces used to be, as well as bite marks on some of the legs. We needed to fill those holes in, but didn't want to sacrifice the weathered finish. First we got started with the repairs by grabbing All-purpose Bondo.
Well here is the secret to getting the must have look without paying the high price!
After repairing the holes with bondo (for more info please visit the link below) I painted on the base coat with Kindling and Suede Gray (Behr Paint), with no rhyme or reason to what color was used where. I painted in long random strokes.
Once the base coat was dry, I dry brushed Scarecrow (Sherwin Williams) and Black (Behr) paint in long light strokes. I tried to mimic wood grain while doing this.
Next I brushed on Dark Walnut (Minwax) wood stain onto the painted surface. I brushed it on half of the chair, then wiped the excess off of that half. Then I repeated the same process for the second half of the chair.
After letting the stain dry completely I top coated the finish with Wipe on Poly in Satin finish.
We reupholstered the old seat with new black vinyl fabric for easy cleaning. For the complete instructions and materials used, please visit the link below!
