I promise -- glitter without the clean up! No mess! Here's how to make shimmering sparkling Christmas tree ornaments with glitter scrapbook paper. The glitter stays on the paper, not on your hands and everything else in your home. I share the DIY steps here and more detailed tips on my blog at http://nomadicdecorator.com/2016/12/11/glitter-ornaments/
I’m a huge Scrooge when it comes to glitter. Glitter is banned from my house. Yeah, even at Christmastime. All violators must eat fruitcake. Why? Because while glitter brings a festive spirit to a Christmas tree, it also puts the festive spirit in your hair, carpet, furniture, everywhere. I’ve even found festive spirit in my bra. But now, I can put the festive spirit only where it belongs – on the Christmas tree! The solution? Glitter scrapbook paper. The glitter DOES NOT COME OFF.
First, head to your local craft store like Joann, Michaels and Hobby Lobby, and get some glitter scrapbook paper. You can get it in individual sheets, or entire books of papers. Glittery scrapbook paper comes in lots of colors. Use coupons - sign up for email coupons, use craft store apps on your phone, watch for sales.
This can be economical because you can fit many ornaments on the paper. Use flat ornaments like those shown here in wood, paper mache, ceramic or heavy chipboard.
Paint the edges a contrasting or coordinating color. Because who wants to spend their time cutting little strips of paper and gluing it around the edges? I don't!
Trace the ornament.
Then cut it out.
Put glue on the ornament. I like Aleene's Tacky Glue because it's thick, and the paper is less likely to wrinkle than with thinner, wetter glues.
Spread the glue.
Press paper onto the ornament. Pay special attention to the edges to be sure they're pressed down and adhere well.
Wow, that is it! You've got glitter ornaments! Ha ha, I was looking for more photos for the next steps. But this is it, folks, super fast and easy. And, clean! No glitter clean-up! The glitter stays on the ornament, not on your hands. So you can spend more time decorating and having fun, not cleaning!
As an optional next step, you could paint stencils on the glitter paper. Though the glitter paper is pretty without paint, and will sparkle and shimmer with your Christmas tree lights.
