I can’t wait to show you what I’ve done to transform this plain, thin rug into a classy outdoor rug for our front porch.
The key to this project is finding a rug that's easy to paint for the right price! You can find a link to the rug I used in the blog post..it's under $18 at http://wespeakdiy.com/painted-outdoor-rug/ We've had it on our front porch for over 6 months and it still looks new!
My initial plan was to paint the border of the outdoor rug using a regular paintbrush. I quickly discovered that was not going to work!

The paint just lay on top of the rug and did not sink into the fibers. It didn’t work at all…so on the plan B!

You can read the post to see Plan B and C initially did not work. But I give tips on how to make them work with some adjustments.
Success with plan D!

For plan D, I took a piece of plywood that was about 3 X 5 – large enough to act as a shield, but small and light enough for me to handle and maneuver with one hand.

I lined the plywood on top of the rug right where I wanted the border to be. Then I spray painted the border.

The plywood blocked any of the paint from getting onto the center of the rug. I just kept moving the board as needed. A couple of times, I had to wipe the pooled paint from the bottom of the board because it would start to leave a thick line on the rug.

I couldn’t believe how easy it was to maneuver the board and the sprayer!

I've spray painted the same outdoor rug maybe 6 times now...each time the UV totally fades the color out. What are ya'll doing different ?
