Use a pair of long nose pliers. Wrap the tips with tape to cushion and grip the bulb. Carefully and gently grasp the bulb, so as not to break it and pull out.

    Like William said a plier....

  • Don't feel bad, I had the same problem with a fixture that has 8 of these little suckers in them. Took me a few days to try every tool I had till I found one that worked. 2 are out now, I am reconsidering replacing the entire fixture. đŸ¤”

Use electrical tape on the pliers, only wrap them with the sticky side out. Start at the pointed end and wrap all the way up. Cut the tape then make a couple of wraps sticky side down at the end to hold the upside tape in place. Wrap tightly. Stretch the tape.

If you don't have needle nose, try some tweezers.

  • It is my fault, when I replaced the fixture from one of the ugly flourescent light boxes that were popular in tract homes in the mid-80's when this house was built, I was going for adequate light. The ceilings are low in this part of the house and I am the "short one" in my circle. Both my brother and his wife are 6'4" and a couple of friends are 6'6". Need to be mindful of headroom. Here is a pic of the ceiling that I am working on . . .

Put rubber gloves on, I have done this with Halogen bulbs, which you are not supposed to touch with your bare fingers. The rubber might be just enough to grip it and pull it out.

Great idea..for handling the bulb. I know you're not supposed to touch the bulbs. It's the tight space that's the big problem. My husband said Loews has padded needle nose skinny plier.. hope we can find them!
