Easy Christmas Tomato Cage Topiary

Here is how I made a lit Christmas tomato cage topiary that’s every bit as gorgeous as store-bought ones, and I spent just $26 making 2 of them.

To make 2 topiaries, I bought (affiliate link) 2 tomato cages, and got green garland, (affiliate link) twisted red and gold garland, bunches of silk poinsettias, gold star ornaments and white lights at the Dollar Store.

In the fall I made pumpkin topiaries for my front porch and I wanted them changed out for Christmas. So, I stored the pumpkins and fall flowers and reused the pots filled with dirt.

For the Christmas trees, I attached the garland with green twist ties and wrapped the tomato cage.

Each topiary took 3 packages of 7 ft. green garland. Spend plenty of time adjusting the greenery so none of the cage shows through.

Thread the 3 wire pieces through a large nut. Push the nut down almost to the garland and bend the wires down to form a nice pointed top to the tree. The wire is quite easy to bend by hand.

Attach the end of the garland to the top of the tree with a twist tie. I used a 12 ft. garland.

Once the garland is where you want it, secure it here and there with dots of hot glue to keep it from blowing off in windy conditions.

Cut the poinsettias so that the stem is very short. In a further step, I'll show you how to use the remainder of the stem to make anchors. These will secure the topiary to the pot so it won't tip over.

Glue 2 flat ornaments together at the top so that the star can stand freely at the bottom.

Cut the stems close to the large stem. Bend them into a U shape. Use them around the base of the topiary to securely anchor them into the dirt of your pot.

Add the lights when it is dark. It makes the coverage much easier.
