I need some decorating ideas for using this glass basket this Christmas.

    Fill with a fresh flower arrangement, maybe even put a string of battery operated lights and fill with different sizes pretty balls. I have the exact same bowl myself. I use it for ice at table for tea.That way no one has to get up to refill glasses with ice.

    Both are great ideas. You could fill with about an inch of jingle bells and add a candle. The pinecone is a very good one. Their are snowy looking pinecones and you could set it in a small wreath or candle ring.

    @Patsy, I think the shape of the basket is lovely so I'd rather not hide it, but place something in that's simple & complimentary. How about some nice white stones (I pick mine up at the beach) and then plant a few paper whites (daffodils) which take about a month to bloom. They get so tall, that I usually wrap them with a ribbon which can match a color in the room where you've placed them ... and don't forget to water them, a challenge when traveling.

    I have one of these and for autumn I fill with an assortments of fake gourds and christmas a mixture of pinecones, cedar branches, balls and a small string of mini lights :)

    Like everyone said, filling it with pretty holiday items would be great and you can wrap a ribbon around the outside or hot glue snowflakes or sparkly items there too. You want to do something temporary so you can use it over and over during the year. It's a great piece to have!

    I made a fake terrarium with spray on snow for the bottom, a few little limbs from the yard, a couple of Christmas balls that went with my décor and a little bird in a huge brandy sniffer last year , you could do that, and it washes up great and can still be used for food or anything else another time, Punch, trifles, banana pudding, gee there are so many things you could use it for, if you can't find one send it here, I will..hehe ;-}

    How about some apples, mixed with green, yellow and red.. then you can place a candle in the middle.. the candle will get warm and perhaps the smell of apples will permeate the house. This works with coffee I know, but the candle must be not scented. I think it would look great.. not sure, but it would never hurt to try..

    I think that a mixture of clear, glittered white, patterned clear & white all together would be quite beautiful...then I would add either clear or white candle holders on each side with white candles....lovely table centerpiece....Have a wonderful Christmas

    geeeze i love that basket...on a different track than the suggestions already..do you have a lot of photos from Christmas past i would fill the bowl with those and put a festive ribbon on the handle..your friends and family can recall memories and tell the stories xx

    You can paint the inside with gold or silver metallic craft paint- it looks really nice on the outside of the glass- and use it as a stand for a table-top Christmas tree.

    I see pomegranates in your bucket with some greenery, and dress the handle up a red and green wired garland with a bow. I think you have so many options that it is just on deciding what to do. LOL I am sure whatever you will use, it will look fantastic. Good Luck

    I like the string of lights idea. I would go shiny gold and/or silver with lights. You can spray paint lots of things, including seed pods, cones etc and have a few ornaments in the mix.

    You can get a bag of cinnamon-scented pinecones at the craft dept, & mix with a miniature string of lights. The lights will slightly warm the pinecones & fill the air with the scent of Christmas! Maybe add a red bow on the handle!

    I can see this glass basket sitting anywhere in your home filled with greenery, seasonal floral picks, all mingled together with a (maybe) 20 clear light strand of Christmas lights. At the change of the season, remove the current floral picks and replace with the next season. The major expense would be the greenery and lights, with the first year gathering your seasonal picks. It would be a nice piece in the kitchen and could be used as a night light when visitors or children are in the house. or moved to the patio during the summer for fun gatherings.

    Oh this seems to need fruit in it I think! Only problem with pomegranates is they are so big but fresh cranberries would be awesome, I also like the idea of the cranberries around a large candle in the middle...that would be beautiful!

    Being an old retired florist ,if I had it I would spray the inside with spray adhesive, sprinkle floral plastic snow on bottom & sides,.scatter red shiny glass ornaments, spray again, loosely,so holly leaves will kind-da stick to ornaments, & sprinkle more snow over them , clear lights, & 6-8 candy canes & maybe a simple green or red ribbon tied to the handle. may be too much, not sure just how big the container is, just my thoughts .

    I'd fill it randomly with a mixture of bright, round ornaments (vary in size) and white twinkle lights (have them poking out between the ornaments so you can see them). Have a small tree limb coming through the middle and out the top so you could continue the twinkle lights into the "small tree" and hang a few small ornaments on the tree !

      @Sheila Bowden I have one and I keep artificial apples in it year round (sometimes fresh fruit) and use it as a trifle bowl if I'm making something to take to a large gathering. Usually a brownie trifle !

    It would look beautiful if you filled it with vintage mulitcoloured lights, then hollowed out a little spot in the middle and put a pointsetta or some amaryllis in there.

    What about potpourri inside? The kind that has pine cones and other wintry objects and smells? You can buy they oil to keep it fresh and all you would have to do after is exchange the potpourri seasonally.

    I have two of the same container. At times I put in potpourri, other times I will put in beautiful colored glass balls and sometimes I just make an arrangement of holly or assorted christmas greens....no matter it will be beautiful!

    I simply fill my basket with apples and some glittered pine cones, smells and looks pretty and I also add some lights into the basket. I get the battery lights for 1.00 at the dollar tree the 35 light strand works great.

    I like to use it with a cake candle in the middle and christmas candys that are wrapped,like starlit mints in it .Green and red candys.I have had mine forever.Use it all year long.even a flower looks great.

    I would put a beautiful arrangement of holly, pine and a beautiful bow and some small tree branches sprayed with silver, gold or white with crystal snow. I can see it now. I love your glass bucket. Looks like an antique. I love glass antiques. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas.

    Hi Patsy I would put some clementines, pomegranates, some small spruce branches here and there, but before hand maybe put an upside down short glass vase or glass bowl in the centre and build the fruit and branches around it. Then on the bottom of the vase/bowl that is facing up I would put a flameless candle. Finishing touch wrap a little bit of spruce around the handle with some thin red ribbon and tie it in a bow or add a thicker red ribbon around the whole glass basket with clear tape and then add a prepare store bought bow. You have many ideas from everyone, and it would be nice see the end product. Post pics when you are finished.

    Hi Patsy, Try piercing oranges with cloves and placing them in the container, decorate with pine twigs and ribbon. Take pics of the end product.

    I use mine with 'popcorn' or 'nuts', small buckets hang from the rim on hangers. I usually put it on the coffee table. The buckets I got from 'Logan's Restaurant' with deserts.

      I saw them at I believe Jo'Ann's Fabric a few years ago (try ebay) our son in law made it into an electric light with snow on the base then fake greens Christmas ornaments and colored lights and it is still like the day he made it absolutely beautiful.

    @Patsy - I have this very same glass basket which was given to me years ago by my sister. I recently found this site and Immediately saw your post. I have been missing my Sister and Mother (both in heaven) so needless to say I got out my prized procession and decide to use it in my Holiday decorations.     I think I would add some Christmas ornaments and a small string of white lights to it OR put a nice chunky candle in the middle and surround it with 'jingle' bells and small Christmas ornaments. It's really pretty!

    I have the very very same glass basket...and I bought it at Walmart several years ago....I have used my to decorate with lights over fruit and nuts for Christmas...and I also make cakes in mine...I have also put pine cones in it with LED lights for Christmas..and sit it on the hearth.....LOVE IT....

    I've been looking for a clear container like that so I believe I may have the perfect ideas you can use it for. 1st Idea: fill a pitcher of water then add 2-3 drops of food coloring and mix, pour the colored water into ice trays or into a zip-lock bag and freeze. If you use the zip-lock bag break the ice up then pour it into the clear container add your desire can/bottled beverages. 2nd Idea: wrap the handle with a pretty ribbon and finish the center with a dramatic bow allowing the tails to hang down. Fill the container with ornaments, lights, pine cones, anything will look great in that container. 3rd Idea: fill the the container with colored sand then place BATTERY OPERATED CANDLES in the sand, in between the candles add jingle bells, small ornaments, or just pieces of cut ribbon left over from gift wrapping Be creative and enjoy that container. I know I would :)

    Fill it with fake "snow," make a few fake "snowballs" (saw the how-to recently - - I think it was on Facebook; basically just covering styrofoam spheres with glue & snow") and post a little wooden sign "Snowballs for sale" or something similar. This makes it a cute decoration throughout the winter & you could add a few little touches to make it appropriate for Christmas, NY Eve, etc.

    my granny (1896) had one on her sideboard with other pressed glass and chrystal decanters. It had a pair of silver plated ice tongs that hung over the side, she said it was an ice bucket. At Christmas she filled it with all colors of divinity candy.

    I have a couple of suggestions. One would be small pine branches laid on the bottom, some red berries for color, white lights, and some scented pine cones for holiday scent. The other would be to put a smaller bucket alone the inside (and ice cream bucket?) and fill the sides with green, red and white beads (wood, acrylic, and bead garland--like gold Mardi Gras beads-- would be an incredible mix). Then on the inside bucket, place floral foam with an artificial arrangement of Christmas florals-- pine boughs, iced branches, a few deep red roses, some scented pine cones, red berry branches, and some white hydrangea to fill in the gaps.

    I put clear Christmas tree lights in mine, then fill it with cinnamon apple potpourri. The lights warm up potpourri and the house smells like Christmas.
