Since you have a lot of wall space, you could do a mural sort of scene that could also work as storing presents! Or even do countdown to christmas plants by spraying chalkboard paint into the center of old plates, i will put a picture in a second :) Here is the link to a DIY for the plates http://www.folklifestyle.com/2012/12/deck-the-walls-with-chalkboard-plates.html">http://www.hometalk.com/browser?link=%20http://www.folklifestyle.com/2012/12/deck-the-walls-with-chalkboard-plates.html happy to help!

Are you wanting to keep up the photos? if so you might arrange them to look like a christmas tree. If not I think many of the beautiful wall christmas trees I've seen this year on pinterest they are just lovely! I did a search and there are sooo many ideas http://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=christmas%20tree%20on%20wall&rs=ac&len=22

@Tanya Peterson Felsheim I like that Idea, If it won't work in those frames, use different frames. Then outline the tree with with a green garland and decorate the inside like a Christmas Tree... you could then use foil paper to make various size circles for the ornaments to go with the square frames of Family members... Or Christmas boxes with the family pics inside....just Brainstorming..

Paint a mural of a tree that connect the pictures in the shape of a Christmas tree. With washable paint, of course !

If you want to keep the pictures you already have then hang pine bows between them or fashion pine roping between the pictures adding some festive bows. It looks like you need to add something to the back of each pictures to keep them hanging straight.

Also remove the sign that says family and put up a Christmas theme sign.

You could make a wall Christmas tree. If you remove the framed pictures and Family sign on the wall (temporarily), use the wall space to create a colourful tree by attaching colourful cards, paper cut outs, or whatever you can lay hands on to create the shape of a typical Christmas tree. If you arrange the pieces on the floor first and take a photo - saw this on Better Homes and Gardens last night - then you can follow your design to attach the pieces to the wall with blue tack or something temporary that won't leave marks on the wall. Colourful cut outs of anything you like can be used to make the tree shape. You could then put your Christmas presents 'under' the tree or use boxes - just wrap and ribbon them in fancy paper or use fabric, brown paper and print a design using paint etc, burlap or whatever you want to make it look like a pile of Christmas presents. If you wanted to make it more three dimensional, you could use temporary picture hooks (the ones with the peel off sticky backs that are easily removed without marking the walls) to hang a few baubles strategically on your 'tree' as well.

Instead of moving all these around, why not put a small red bow (you can buy them by the dozen) on a few or every frame...randomly placed...some at corner, some at top, some at bottom, some on the glass. Even a sprig of greenery with a small red bow on just a half dozen....????

That wall has rectanglitis. Too much repetition of the same shape, color and mat. You needn't play "matchy matchy." You need some circles and ovals to soften the overall look. If you don't want to invest in oval and circular frames, try arranging those in a circle or at least some curved line. You have so many photos on one wall it looks as if you're trying to tell your whole life story. Why not put most of them in an acid free album and enlarge just your favorites for frames?

I wrap my pics like presents, using Christmas paper, & adding bows to all
  • Cyndi Daves Cyndi Daves on Dec 03, 2013
Julie Viada shares my idea. I wrap my pictures in gift wrap (to save paper don't wrap the back completely, just over the edges then tape) and add wire edged ribbon that I can shape into elegant bows. I prefer solid color paper on most with maybe one or two in a corresponding print. But then, all the gifts under my tree are color coordinated too!!

I like the thought of a wall tree, but maybe you could use old Christmas pictures of your family, use "family" as your tree topper. I think Sally is right you need some different shapes and individual pictures.

I collect unique Christmas stockings and I have a wall like the one you are asking about. At Christmastime, I hang my stocking collection on that wall. It's simple and fun and the stocking don't stick our so far as to get in the way of people, big and small, walking past.

wrap a few like presents then take a few down and replace with stockings. Add a Happy Holidays sign where your family sign is.

you can use wrapping paper and cut them like ornaments and put them behind the photos - make just a few large ones and fix them to the wall (I'd say 5 for this wall-off center of the frames) or a bunch of small ones and place them here and there... tie bows and ribbons to your "ornaments"

I hope you like my idea. First remove all the frames from the wall, replace the white boarder around the photos with a red boarder or color typing paper (or use your favorite Christmas color), replace all those small pictures and place only 1 photo to fit its frame (preferably YEARS PAST Christmas photos), now replace all the frames back on the wall but this time make sure you place them evenly and symmetrically and not too far apart (this may require you to fill previous holes and touch up paint but it will be worth it). Once the frames are all hung on the wall remove the "family" plaque and replace it with a removable Christmas wall tattoo ( @ most craft stores) that may read "Merry Christmas", "Happy Holidays" or "Remember the times...". One last frame hanging trick is to use the new Command Stripes (, just peel and stick on the wall and they will never mess up your walls. Take your time. It should look great and also become a conversation piece for the Holidays.

Even when it's not the holidays, perhaps a different word. The word family is too high and too obvious. Perhaps "joy" or "love" or another longer word. I also think it's too many big frames with too many small pictures. People can't really see them. Condense the collection down and not so high on the wall You could replace the center frame with a wreath. Add a few gold/silver/red bows on some. Instead of Christmas, perhaps a more wintery look. How bout some snowflake wall decals? or handmade snowflakes? small greens tucked behind a few corners. Good luck!

Ok now time to see how you did....we want pictures! haha
  • Cheryl Newman Cheryl Newman on Dec 10, 2013
The easiest thing would be to remove the word Family, and hang a garland and bow from that nail, and a nail on each side of the pictures. Or you might try buying a few wreaths to hang around some of the frames instead

You can use tinsel, fake snow & Christmas lights, just remove the photos from the wall first.

Good morning everyone. Thanks for your many ideas. I have been much busier than expected and did not have time to tackle the wall. Yesterday, I took down the pictures and filled all the nail holes. Now I see how discolored the wall is compared to the rest of the room and have decided to paint it. I have leftover paint so I'll be doing that project today. I'll keep you posted @Tanya Peterson Felsheim .

My dad always covers his pictures with wrapping paper to make it look like gifts hanging on the wall.
  • Cindi Cindi on Dec 16, 2013
I would hang the framed pics in the design of a tree on the wall, and hang an ornament from corner of each one, and cover some other frames in wrapping paper to go under it to look like presents, use the word Family for top of tree,,,,just an idea

Today being the last day of January I have decided to take down my snowman. Just realize I did not post a picture of my wall for which I had gotten such good ideas. So here it is. I found the snowman panel at Hobby Lobby and liked it right away but not for a quilt. So, I got out my paint and did it up. I borrowed a frame which I had in another room. It was big enough for the panel, 44 x 28 inches. Now I am on the lookout for a permanent frame for it. It's time to take down my "JOY". It's so much fun decorating. Thanks again.

My sister of the heart, replaces her gallery wall pictures at Christmas with photos in the same frames of 'Christmas Past.' She also swaps out some of the frames for her collection of vintage St. Nicholas Prints. It all looks lovely with her family Christmas photos. Enjoy your project.
