How can I repurpose this cocktail cart?

In my opinion the wood is dark. I would stain the wood a lighter color.

I would leave it how it is. It's beautiful as is.

It's nice as is but so dark. Why not just sand and paint it. Maybe one color all over to match your decor, then add a bright pop of orange or red inside the globe and maybe on the bottom shelf. Gold on the inside would look nice in place of a color pop. If you use gold, I would paint the whole thing white or ivory.

My second recommendation would be to cover up the globe/map with paint because it makes the piece look old fashioned (unless you're going for the antique look). Instead of the map, decoupage something more fun in its place like travel pictures taken from magazines. Then, grab a color from the decoupage and paint the rest of the cart that color.

Whatever you decide, this will make a great bar cart.

PLEASE, please leave it the way it is! It is perfect!! You have a really neat piece there that is begging to be left as is and admired for its fabulous vintage look.

I love antiques but if you really want to change it do a flip and lighten the color and turn it into a portable bar!

Sell it to someone who will love it as is. It's too beautiful to change. Use the money to find new treasures for you

being as I am a crafty person,,, I would probably leave it as is ... drill a small hole in globe and keep yarn in it by my chair.. the yarn you are working on could come out the hole as you work.. at the bottom.. i would find some tall basket type items and keep needles, pattern books , etc.. just a thought.

Omg... don't repurpose it, sell it! Lots of people (me for example) love it just the way it is!

O... M... G... !!! I would NOT change a thing about it. Love it the way it is. To decoupage, sand it, paint it, etc. would be blasphemy. I love things like this... and globes. Like someone else said, sell it to someone (for way more then you bought it) who loves it the way it is. Use that money for another project. I hate it when beautiful pieces like this are turned into frilly country chic crap. This is a work of art. Nuff said. With that being said, you found a very nice piece :-)

Everyone seems to think this thing is an old antique when obviously it isn't. Glad you pointed hat out, Linda. Just have fun with it. There are so many great things that can be done to make exactly what works for you.

Wow, lots of opinions but not many ideas on here! I like the globe and compass rose on the bottom but I think I would take it all apart and paint that cheap looking wood metallic and then put a black glaze over it to tone it down. Perhaps copper? It's popular now and would look good with the browns.

I just read the part about looking for "repurposing" ideas. Take the globe out and put in some sort of bin as an ice bucket or cooler for drinks. Or use the flip top to store your snacks under, like cheese tray and fruit at a party.

The globe is wonderful.....I would leave it as is, and just add some cocktail glasses and napkins to the side. Use something else to make a bar....this is too beautiful to change out the globe. Globes are 'collector' items and the table it's in is such a bonus feature.

It would be tough to repurpose it as Art Deco because the square shape is not there for that look. And hard to cover a honking round globe. The best that I can come up with is to freshen it up.

Leave the globe and map areas as is but paint out the solid wood areas in a high gloss black. And I own one as well. A gift from my mother in law. Sigh.

If you do a search for painted globes, you may find inspiration for how to paint the globe to go with your Art Deco idea. I saw one where the globe was white and the continents were gold. You could paint the wood that holds the globe gold or chrome and use accents of gold or chrome on the bottom of the table. Another idea is to remove the globe and the wood that hold the top of the globe and replace the globe with a glass tray. Add accents in gold or chrome metallic paint. If you find the right design or picture, you could decoupage over the pattern on the cart.

I love your idea of changing it to an Art Deco style. Please post pictures of your finished project.

Paint the whole piece in Annie Sloan paint - vintage white with a dark wax is my favorite. Do not paint the globe -every home needs 1!! Hang wine glasses under the top shelf and store wine on bottom shelf. Put beautiful cocktail accessories on top shelf.

I'd be very tempted to make a perfect pattern of the "smiley" surface on the top and take it to a Corian, marble or onyx guy, and have it cut to be a cheese board. Hide the cheeses under the dome. I gather it's a "drinks" cabinet, but I'm sure you can adapt it with a cake platter to cover the indentations that held the glasses.

I like it and wouldn't change it too much, but you could add wood strips under the top to hang wine glasses, and remove the thing on the bottom shelf and drill 3 or 4 holes to hold upside down wine bottles. It would be really cool.
