A DIY Sparkle Ball Light - These Are Awesome!

Let me just start by saying I am now obsessed with these. I made one and ran back to the store for more lights and cups!

You need 50 9 oz short solo cups - I used the short fat party sized ones

A string of 50 (or more) led lights

stapler

exacto knife

clothespins (optional)
Cut an X into the bottom of all 50 solo cups
Take 12 cups and staple them together on their sides to form a complete circle. This will be the bottom row and you will build on top of it.
Your next row of cups consists of 9 cups. You can use clothespins to help hold your cups in place if you feel you need more hands. Staple these cups to the cups below them and alongside them. Once you have that row done, use 4 cups to fill in the top. Again, staple them to the row below and the cups along side each other.

Once you have that done, that is HALF of your sparkle ball. You have the repeat those same steps to make the other half of your sparkle ball.
Once you have both halves of your sparkle ball done you are ready for the lights. Locate the plug in end of your lights and make sure they are left outside of the ball. Starting at that end, begin poking your lights through the back of the cup. Work your way down the string and around. Put the lights into both halves of the sparkle ball.
Once all the lights are in, put the two halves together to form the ball. Then you need to staple each half to the other one. This is where I used the clothes pins to help hold everything together.
Ta da! Plug it in and admire it. And as with all lights/lamps - do not leave plugged in unsupervised.

I made one ball with red lights and one with the multi colored lights. The multicolored light ball is one I did with an off brand of cups. It did not work nearly as nice as when I used the Solo cups ( you can read about that disaster here).

Happy crafting!

My neighbor is trying to make these. They have tried 3 different staplers and aren't having any luck. Do you use a specific stapler?
