PEDESTAL ASHTRAY BASE TABLE

I had a beautiful piece or sugar maple wood, it was the leftover of a kitchen counter, the piece that was cut out for the sink. I got it for only $10.00 already sanded. Now I needed to find something to make a great foot to make a table with, and I found a brass ashtray pedestal online for $30.00, but you will see why I could not resist.
Of course it was the counter piece of wood that I wanted to make something useful and cute with, and that is what sent me hunting for a foot to make a low table with probably for a side table for a couch or a bed. Never thought I would find such a great piece of vintage brass. I cleaned it but being careful to keep the patina.
Now my piece of sugar maple wood had a few crevasses in it, so again I wanted to try something I had not worked with yet. I decided to fill the crevasses with epoxy, But I wanted it to stand out so I mixed into my epoxy brass power and it took me 2 pours for the larger hole but it gave me the shimmering effect I wanted.
I stained my piece with Golden Oak Verathane Wood Stain from Restore for $1.00 . Gave it just a minor tint to bring out the grain of the wood. I did not want to ruin my epoxy effect.
Now for the tricky part, as you can see there way only one hole in the pedestal. I will admit it scared me a bit. I wanted it to be solid and well balanced. I had to find the wright stuff to do the job. I needed anchors screws but the old ones not the cheap modern screws.
It was a tiny looking project but it took a lot of my little grey matters and time to finally take it to fruition. Hope you will enjoy it !!!
