How can I repurpose old lace tablecloths?

Using decoupage, you can cover boxes, bins, table tops...anything...and then paint the surface when dry for a textured effect! Another great use to place over a painted surface and make a pattern with spray paint. This is particularly pretty when a chest base is painted one color and the drawer fronts have the lace pattern. White on black and black on white is extremely pretty.

I have used them to make hankie sized cafe like curtains for one place I lived in. Cut into hankie size squares (about 12" square). Put small curtain circles (metal rings) on one corner or attached clothes peg curtain clips to one corner that have the rings already attached and bunch them up to go across the rod to your desired taste. add a little grapevine between hankies or dollars store twinkle lights or favorite lace strip or ribbon.

I have also gathered and pieced a bedskirt out of it using and old flat sheet and attaching the ruffled lace to hange over as your skirt.

Everything is reusable and reimaginable if have an imagination!

1). Even if it is ripped or stained, it could still be salvaged for a patchwork quilt with another layer of fabric under it. (It would be cut up and any damage sections not used).

2). Cut into strips and gather into a ruffle to trim a set of pillow shams, or a bed skirt - depending on the size of the tablecloth v. size of bed.

3). Little girls adore (satin and) lace. Embellish a simple sundress or even jeans with a bit of lace.

4). Paired with a floral fabric (retired curtains repurposed) tied to a Hula Hoop with ribbon. Secure the Hula Hoop to a ceiling hook, creating a circular "tent" in a corner of the playroom. Add floor cushions and artificial flowers woven into the lace. Extend the tent at the bottom with more ribbons to tie to weights to hold the fabric open. (We used sandbags made with more of the same floral fabric). Now you have the beginnings of a " Secret Garden".

Tip: If you do plan to cut it up, use a generous amount of starch on it first, then iron it smooth. The starch helps it hold its shape while you work with it.

I took one and carefully cut long strips I use as the Xmas tree garland. I also used a few thicker strips as curtain tie backs.

I like to set a formal table on occasion. What's the point of having nice stuff? And I have a large collection of ugly trivet-mats, be they cork or bamboo or woven, in assorted sizes. Using lace cloth "pillowcases" the table is beautiful. You can line with linen (old napkins or good dish towels) , even using different colors themes according to the time of year. Easy enough to stitch by hand. Throw in a lingerie bag to wash and dry flat.

This is something I just mentioned to my mom that I need to do with a lace tablecloth my grandmother gave me almost fifty years ago. It's beautiful heavy cotton lace that unfortunately has suffered some damage over the years that could not be adequately repaired. I checked it out carefully and have enough salvageable material to make a beautiful 18" W x 7' L table runner for my dining room table. With other smaller leftover pieces I hope to make some mats to put under casserole or serving dishes. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I use lace or crocheted table runners as a back or foot scrubber in the bath as I'm not as limber as I once was. I also make scrubbies for the kitchen. Gently works on dishes or anywhere else a gentle scrub is needed.

If they are decrotive make some wall art. Colour a canvas with your choice of colour, then take the lace and stretch slightly over the front and staple over the back.

Can also do the same with embroidery hoops.

Donate them to a college drama department or amateur theatre company. Materials for building sets and costumes are always needed, and more often than not, there is not much budget for these resources.

Hi, Use as a Bedspread, or make Cushions or Pillows. Maybe a Skirt or Dress. Bits could be used as peek through on back of slashed Jeans etc. Dip in thin concrete and hang over a large container to end up with and outside Vase or use the dipped tablecloth over a garden table to become a garden accessory all year long.

Make pillow covers.
