Do you have suggestions for our master bedroom?

Our master bedroom is due for some refreshing. Even though this may produce an "UGH!" from many of you, I would like to have a pastel bedroom palette. We've had a navy/coral for a long time and I'm tired of the dark look.
Knowing that I cannot make it too feminine, any suggestions on wall and bedding combinations? The room has a very large window and gets a lot of natural light.
I'm going to paint or stain the chest of drawers, armoire and night stands. What I decide to do with those will depend on the color palette I end up choosing for the room. Thx for any suggestions!!

I had a garden guest room with lots of natural light. I found a long piece of white lace fabric with a large swirl pattern and hung it as a drape over and down the sides of the double window. I used a white and yellow antique quilt with red accents and a similar colored floral sheets. A few nice small mirrors and bird prints on the walls. Walls were painted a satin finish off white. Furniture was painted buttery yellow and white and a few antique small knotted loop rugs with animals themes on the cherry stained wood floor. Guests all loved this room and more often than not overstayed their welcome! It was always a bright cheerful restful place in the house.

  • How about beach / ocean colors? Pale blues, greens, aqua, turquoise? With some "sandy" tones thrown in? Lightens and brightens but not too feminine. Does not have to be a beach theme, just the colors.

Find bedding that you like and go from there . that is the largest item that has the least choices available. Im thinking of gender neutral. using a medium to light gray/ taupe neutral with pastel greens and plum for acent.. these are the colors for 2017 so you should be able to find a selection of bedding with those colors. or greens and blues work well in pastels together as well. you could use some of your corals for a spark of acent too

Absolutely. Fall in love with a bedspread or comforter. Put it on the bed for a week and your paint color will come to you, even if it's a whispy white. I tend to pick basic wall colors so I can change for the seasons if I like and hang anything that suits my fancy on the walls.

I have seen some rooms with blush, with light grey and with a dusty blue or dusty plum. however I have no idea how I would combine these colors, how many colors to use and in what amount. I'm open to anything and everything.

The rule of thumb is to have 3 colors... one main color, one secondary and then acent. I don't remember the percentages, and its not in stone but I'd guess 1/2 of the main color, then 1/3 secondary and the little bit left would be accent ..

so in a room the accent color might be a pillow, and part of a print in other items, and maybe a throw across the room.... think threes... so in three places though out the room.... most time odd numbers work best for example 1 or 2 pillows instead of 2 or 4..... colors, check out HOUZZ.COM, join that for free and find lots of ideas and you can post question and people will help, some people will even take your photo and do a mock up using different colors styles for you. good luck

I agree with Lynn about purchasing your bedding & linens first, then consider wall colors. Lately I have been using Valspar's Oyster Pearl in a Satin Finish ( a wonderful neutral light color) with Semi Gloss White trim on the window frames, moldings, and doors. I also hang white sheers 4" from the ceiling to the floor to give the appearance of higher ceilings bringing an airy feeling to the room. You can also utilize a small collection of mirrors and a few pieces of wall art for pops of color. Your room, Your rules, You go Girl! Have fun and enjoy your new oasis.

Diana, You're in Florida, I'm in Missouri...I need you to come and help me do my bedroom! That sounds just like the kind of airy serenity I'm looking for! Thanks for the tip on the paint color.
