Dog Food Storage Container Idea
When we redid our kitchen I was worried about where I would store the dog food. To many people this may not be of concern, but to me it was HUGE!
We have 2 newfoundlands (140lbs each) and go through a lot of dog food each day so having their food somewhere convenient ranked about as high as what color the kitchen was going to be painted ;)
I had seen so many different types of storage ideas on the internet, but nothing worked for us since we had A LOT of food to store. Containers were either too small or way too big. Some had food and water bowls built it, but I needed mine to accomodate 2 dogs. It was very frustrating!
I knew where I wanted to store it so all I had to do was come up with something that would hold the food and fit in that spot. My mother-in-law was at our local Goodwill and she ended up finding it - an old metal garbage can!

Take your ugly silver garbage can and wash it down good first. Once it has completely dried, give it a fresh coat of spray paint in whatever color you would like. Do not spray the inside of the can where the dog food will be stored - only spray paint the outside. I choose a seafoam green color for my can to fit in with my beachy colored kitchen.
Once your can has completely dried you can add your food! Looks like I need more ;)

I did the same thing with a metal garbage pail. They also sell a strong spring that attached to each handle through the lid handle. I can barely open the can...so dogs can't either.
But... I would suggest putting that can under the table, counter so it is super secure just in case.

Watch for rust. I used one yrs ago & it started rusting around bottom seal. Leave it in bag & set inside. I use a kitchen flat top flip lid garbage can that is plastic. Dogs have never figured out how to open it.
We wash it out ever other month. We would use a 30 gal plastic garbage can in garage until 2 yrs ago. One for open bag & 2nd one for extra bag when we had 5 dogs in house.
