Tube TV Shell to Chalkboard & Organization Station

11 Materials
I found this TV shell at a sale for $3.00. Luckily, the TV was already gone. The first thing I was asked when I went to pay for my things was, “What on earth are you going to do with it?” I love that question because to me, how can you not see something?
I first tipped the case on its side to remove the staples from the bottom holding the mesh on along with some other little piddly things. I followed up with a thorough cleaning which I would do many times over.
I wanted a shelf and in looking for what to use as side supports, I ended up using the leftover pieces shaved off of the wainscoting for the dry erase organizer.
The supports were cut to length, placement height was measured and marked, and the supports were installed.
For the shelf, a piece of MDF was used. It'll be removable too.
The bottom shelf was made from a 3/16" thick piece of plywood that was all kinds of bowed. We used glue along with brad nails, making sure to avoid the screws that were already in place holding the base on. We clamped it down, letting it dry fully.

Visit the blog to see how we avoided hitting the original screws and other details.
Since this will be a two sided piece, casters were added. First, the sockets were installed then the wheels at the very end.
I'd been filling holes throughout the entire process along with sanding. I also added a piece of trim on the shelf side to finish it off.
I painted the entire TV with a blue but, there was one spot on the top that kept bleeding through. I finally gave up trying to "fix" it and used a white spray paint over the top and it worked like a charm.
All that was left was attaching the chalkboard, adding the shelf, and putting on the wheels and we were in business.
I do love how this turned out and I swear, if my house wasn't so small, I would keep these things!
