I have a bedroom that is to large for me and husband. Maybe someone can help with were to place the bed. It is 12ft wide 20ft long. I have placed it were previous owner had theirs but my windows one on either side and the sun comes out and that's the alarm clock! I don't have curtains just blinds. I haven't found bedroom color I like for bed comforter and such plus I like to mix and match for seasons. My walls are light beige and I have no problem with that it will allow me to change out bedding. Anyway since the room is a rectangle I have it separated one side as bedroom one as desk for husband and one for me. It's not the worst but it just doesn't seem right. I don't use my desk which is for crafting or puzzle making because I don't love being up there. Please if anyone has an idea share all is welcomed. Oh door to enter room is in the middle of room so can't have bed opposite since room is only 12ft wide. Thanks 😯.

Think about your dream room, it sounds like you have enough space to make it happen. I know for myself, I always loved the idea of having a big, statement, stand alone mirror and a nice, spacious vanity with a matching chair. But, my room isn't big enough for those pieces. I'd say, have fun with your space, more is more in this case!

Thanks I do have room for that at end of hallway leading to bathroom on rt side and walkin closet on left. I do have an outlet so I can hang a light over area. I already tried the dresser over there and it fits fine so a vanity would fit. What do you think about paint I'm not a light pink or purple girl I'm into colors that are colors medium to deep colors. But I haven't changed because I currently have no overhead light. That's next on my list with updating bathroom. My room is currently the color of the second photo you posted. Carpet is also same color and I tend to lean towards warm colors. You know what would be great if I could have closet free standing across back of headboard for my overflow. It is a large walkin we have but I will have to change arrangement of shelving because it just doesn't work for me,maybe I should focus on that later. I'm telling you I just don't like the room I don't feel comfortable in it. You know when something just isn't right but you can't nail what it is? I don't feel like it's part of home. First floor is finished and great but my room is next and I'm desperate. The only thing I like in that room is the bathroom but it needs work yet I don't mind it at all. I'm just fixing it up for future resale.

I used to love just having white sheer curtains in my bedroom, but like you, who wants that early of a wakeup call, so I gave in and bought solid neutral (gray) grommet room darkening curtains. Now, I'm so happy and get a better sleep. With a room that size, I definitely would not have a desk in there. You want your bedroom to be an oasis, not a work space. My suggestion is to add a reading area, a seating area with pole lamps and a table for coffee, hot chocolate or midnight snacks. You can use a settee or oversized plush chairs. These can be in a contrasting color that you choose later for your comforters or quilts. If you like warm colors, accent with a cool color or cool colors with warm accents.(Vases, pillows, pictures, or even candles) Use a beautiful rug to separate the area. Make it cozy, even a loveseat would soften the room and make it feel more comfy and relaxing. Maybe the reason you don't feel at ease in there are the desks... you shouldn't sleep where you work or work where you sleep. lol Good luck.

Thanks and I never wanted his desk up here. The problem is that he doesn't keep it organized and visitors don't need to see our electric bill you know what I mean? He has a file cabinet and he doesn't file things I got him a mail holder small white and he puts things upright so they flop over. It's jut a mess. The only reason I had the table brought up here for me was to balance out the room. I have a pine cabinet in between desks to hold printing paper and some crafting items. I can find a home for them this house has space for them. I really don't ant a reading Ara up hee because them he would just leave books all over the place his book case is in family room. He reads multiple books at a time but don't put them back for the evening. I don't want to get rid of dsk because I love the desk it's solid wood that looks like honey and top is different wood. Mine can go into shed. Although it's very nice I can do without it in house. So can the cabinet. It can be repurposed at some point. We have 3 young men and as soon as one leaves the desk and his clothes can be moved out. Walk in closet looks large when empty but once we began to put our clothes away it shrunk. I like the love seat idea with a pullout bed for one of our guys if grandma comes over. They can sleep with us it's like vacations. One will have to give up room for a few days. Do you think grey would be OK with light vanilla carpet? It's just that I actually saved a kleenex box that is grey with cities floating up in blue. I don't think that it would go with the wall color I have hich is also vanilla, since it's a warm color. I have had that box for months I love it but I can love it it different color scheme. You see in a few years we retire and will sell home but in the man time I want to enjoy it, it's been 11 months and this will be the last room I tackle. I don't want to paint to have to repaint house since it was recently painted. But I don't want to leave room like it is, do you think a seating area would help it seem more warm and cozy. I won't have a TV in room we have 2 downstairs. We could store desk in she'd as well its the same size as room and I added a loft for storage of holiday items. It's turned into a man cave with holiday stuff upstairs in loft and fishing and other stuff down stairs so there went my she shed.he uses a laptop so I don't understand why he needs this desk in the house at this time. He sits there for approximately 10 minutes a day. Yes your ideas are inspiring me to get theses items out of house and into storage. Leave walls alone and make it cozy. Hey I'm the only girl in the house I should have some feminine space. Thank you very much, sorry for all the thinking out loud but I had to go through that process to get to answer. God's blessings.

Oh yes I need things up but not until furniture has a home. Then I can purchase and place appropriately. No I don't like making holes in walls so I have to be very sure. I will place artwork on floors where it will go and I live with it and change around until it feels right. Floating shelves will also help to fill the wall space I just have absolutely no niknaks. I also don't like a bunch of framed photos. I have a bunch on external drive and can see them as necessary. Plus niknaks are smallish especially if on a floating wall shelf. I love glass art. If large may fall down and break, I also love geometric as well as organic art. I'm talking about free flowing colors that look relaxing. Not flowers which I love but have in dining room. You see I have issues.HAHAHA understatement that's for sure. Just scared of making a mistake so I'm slowly letting go of that fear and follow me heart . Thank you though and I am going to get to that it's the furniture placement that has had me stumped. But some issues resolved with everyone's ideas.

I had a chocolate room in old house. How funny. I loved that room was very cozy and just the right size. I absolutely love spring and fall color's so it would work for both seasons since it is like nature. I love nature. I hate gardening. Wish I could have a gardener. Oh by the way I can spell even though I went to Chicago schools but that was 40 yrs ago when you couldn't wear pants to school unless you had a skirt or dress to go over them that soon ended . I have known my H for 34 yrs and married 26yrs. So we are about same age. I'm an epileptic so I'm on many med and I was born irratated the med make me go from 0-60 in nano minute. But I wasn't diagnosed until I was pregnant with first child. So he didn't sign up for this. He is great but I fail to see it sometimes. I found a home for my table I have a 2nd cousin who has first apartment and no furniture. I'll drive it to her. I wonder if she could use cabinet. I need to speak with her directly not through mom. But that's great I feel blessed to be able to help her. You started this, thank you so much and he will have to dismantle his desk and put away. It is so freeing to have spoken with you.

Hey Gwen, we plan on retirement soon and Kentucky was my first choice then Tennessee so I can still visit family plus it's suppose to be great for retirement and large budget cut living off of a pension. So how is it there, I want to move to still have seasons but just not northern Illinois weather.

I'd purchase grommet panels and hang those on your windows. You can close them at night so the light isn't coming in at you each morning. These will make a big difference. Coordinate the color with your bedding. Purchase 2 night stands and put tall chunky lamps on each since you have no overhead lighting.

If you are going to keep the desk in your bedroom, I'd hang curtain panels from the ceiling to separate the room, keeping the desk on one side and maybe a couple of side chairs with a lamp where you could sit and read if need be.

If you need additional closet space, you could purchase two large storage closets and put them on the side of the room where the desk is and put the desk in between them.

Hey babyboomer, those are great ideas yes desk stays but we will be replacing blinds and adding curtains and flipping room hopefully for the last time. Closets to separate clothes would be great I can hide desk. I can screw them together and add moulding. Then I can have a chair and table there. We have retro side tables that I love but I do need to replace lamps at least his and I have matching lamp down stairs. Later I can update them I like to mix and match. I have been having trouble finding a bedset that I like. But I trust that I will find one or at least white and then I can add color with sheets and bedskirt. We have both decided that if my cousin can't use pieces we will donate. He promised to keep things organized and to file things. I would do it but he is picky. I'm going to first see how much it would cost to redo closet so it works for us. I don't like the wire shelves but will keep what works. I could get screen or maybe make one to block desk and that will soften room. If I can fix closet instead of puchasing two cabinets. I've never had my own room I had to share with older sister and she made all the decisions. And then you get married and you still have to share, but he is easy going and won't care what color I pick for bedding and curtains. I love everyone's ideas ,thank you so much.

You know...you talked about getting a screen. I wonder, maybe a pretty room divider would help? If you look on ebay, lots of times they have all kind of pretty room dividers. And the convenience of having a room divider is...you can move it and position it til you get it just the way you want it.

    • Eroque022810 Eroque022810 on Jan 22, 2017

What is the difference between a room divider and folding screen. Is a room divider open to other side or made of several pieces unlike a screen which is hinged together?

Thanks everyone I have decided on grey and yellow for sprint and I'll look for bedding that will go with grey curtains, I do plan on getting the room darkening curtains. That also helps with masterbath. So now look for my next post questions concerning placement of furniture in LR&DR. I am terrible at this and thought I had it figured out but apparently not. Thanks

We have gray curtains in our bedroom and our quilt set is grey and yellow. Check out Brad's Deals (www.bradsdeals.com) for great sales on bedding.

Hey guys you have all been great sounding board but I would like to throw another idea out there bare with me please. I measured my husband's desk and it's shorter than our queen size bed frame so how do you think a bed would look if I put desk behind it with the file and printer set up so you don't have to see it and it would be closer to windows and bed kind of floating in that area then the rest of the room I plan on making a sitting area. Plus we have dressers as well to take up space so it doesn't look as large or long I should say more precise? You see bed is super heavy and I don't want to continue to move it I just want to do it and be done with it and then go shopping for bedding and bathroom. So I'll wait to hear from you all if you think ya or na.

Guys you'll be happy to know that I am done. I placed his desk behind bed frame which takes up maybe 5 ft so he can pull chair out and file things.I took mine apart will be given away then moved bed took mattress off first then placed dressers his is on wall but behind bed. Dressers I moved around a bit until it looked right. The other cabinet that I was planning on. Giving away fell through so I am still using it for craft storage and may keep. I rec'd a gift from my family member it's a wooden 2 drawer to file cabinet with keys to lock. Yes it makes me thrilled. I looked for grey and yellow but found grey and burnt orange so warm and cold and it brought sheets I also found a set of extra sheets in the burnt orange 2 different companies yet perfect at T.J Maxx so how much more blessings could I ask for. You were all so awesome. I washed sheets that night and slept in a fresh bed. So when you open door you see bed on left and cabinet on right. It's more manageable this way more cozy and I love it because it makes me smile and windows are behind me and I purchased blinds yesterday. Just curtains left and I already found them so I will be purchasing them soon. I'll hit walls when I see something I love regardless of color because bedding will be changed out seasons change. I could never thank all of you who actually cared and wrote to me to offer help and advise.
