Reclaimed Wood Art

This piece of art was made from reclaimed wood from very old barns torn down in Indiana. Check out how I made it!
First, collect some awesome old boards. These were great because they had the wear of aged wood, some random nail holes, and the old saw marks, which are my favorite.
Next. cut the boards down using a miter saw (and table saw if you need to rip them) and start piecing them together to see how you like them best. I knew I wanted a line down the middle and it to be assymmetrical, but I just played around with it for awhile until thought it looked good.
If you want color, use some acrylic paint, watered down and paint a few of the pieces. I painted, let it sit for 30 seconds, then wiped it off. Similar to the technique you use when staining. It worked perfectly. I then glued all the pieces down to a rectangle of 1/4" plywood the size that I wanted. In order to glue the pieces, I used some heavy cans, books, and tools to weigh them down while the glue dried. For the shorter pieces, I used shims under those weights in order to apply pressure to them.
And here's the final product! It looks so great and the colors are fun and match my living room decor perfectly.
