An Exotic Chest

I bought this chest at the thrift store, but kept it for some time waiting for a good idea or design to use on it, and that was hard to find!
However, the idea came for Christmas! Someone of my family, who knows what I really like, gave me a block of artistic papers as Christmas gift.
As soon as I saw it, I imagined the chest with this image in the front, and decided this was the idea I was looking for!
The size didn´t match. It wouldn´t be easy, but it wouldn´t be impossible either!
With a lot of patience and care, I cut out every image of the illustration. I had to buy a second set to have two illustrations to work with. So I added parts to the frame to match the rectangle I needed. There was a little problem: I could´t cut the spaces in the middle of leaves and flowers, the areas I circled in red.
So I had to work with the paint, adding and mixing different colours, until I could finally reach exactly the same colour as the background of the original illustration. I started glueing the pictures, distributing them in the whole area
I used the second illustration to get some extra palms and leaves and complete my space.
In this photo you can see the circled part that maintained some of the turquoise part of paper. As you can see, the paint of the background is so similar that you can´t tell where the paper ends and paint starts.
I painted the body of the piece in a dark navy blue, and golden edges.
And this is the finished version of my exotic chest!
