I truly hated to spend a lot of money on furniture for my guestroom but wanted a chic space for my guests. And, since I am the Thrifting Diva, I stalked my local thrift stores for the perfect nightstand, and found this awesome wooden nightstand at Goodwill for $10. I especially loved this piece because of the storage spaces for my guests. Of course, the color absolutely had be changed, and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint came to the rescue.
Thrifted Nightstand Makeover
I simply wiped down the nightstand with a dry cloth to remove any dust. That's it! No sanding, no sanding, no sanding!
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, Paris Grey color. After shaking the can for a few minutes, opened my can, dipped my brush in and begun to paint. The awesome thing about chalk paint, you don't need to know any particular techniques. It's super easy to use. I painted 2 coats within an hour. Chalk paint dries very quickly and by the time I was finished applying the first coat, that coat of paint was dry and ready for the second coast.
Once 2 coats were applied, I applied a thin layer of clear wax to various sections of the nightstand. Using a wax brush, I brushed in the wax. I then applied a very very thin layer of dark wax. Using my brush for dark wax, I applied the wax and then using a clean cloth, I removed the excess dark wax. If you ever add too much dark wax, you simply add some clear wax to remove the dark wax. TIP -- never apply dark wax directly to your piece, it will take forever to remove if you mess up.
