Sandstone Finish Example and close up of one of the finishes you can create using our Counter Top Kits offered here in the link below. www.heirloomtraditionspaint.com
Here is what you will need to get stated on the first portion of our project.

#1 Painters tape to protect areas you will not be painting.

#2 Quality brush

#3 Wooden paint stir stick

#4 Sponge and terry cloth rags

#5 Credit card or smoother

#6 Ultra Gaurd Primer, Heirloom Traditions Paint Product
Start with a clean, grease free counter top. Formica or any slick surface can be coated, using Ultra Gaurd Primer.
Most importantly, you must stir the primer, from the bottom. It is a very heavy product and all the good stuff is in the bottom of the can.
Next, randomly apply the Ultra Gaurd Primer to your counter top. Work in sections at a time so you can get an even pattern.
Next, using a chip brush, create a stippling texture all over the counter top, to even out the surface.
Once the primer has started to dry and is loosing it's gloss, take your smoother or credit card and lay it verticle to the surface, dragging and smoothing as you go. Be careful not to create a pattern in the surface. You are really dragging the wet areas over to the dry areas. This will help to create a smooth surface while visually, it will have many areas of texture.
Next, we will be creating the Smokey Quartz finish, using Barnwood Liquid Wax. Brush on a coat of the liquid wax all over the surface. Then remove excess with your terry cloth towel, blotting and creating texture as you go.
Next, we will mist with water droplets to create even more texture and stone look. Using a spray mister, spritz the water in small sections onto the surface. Then remove with a dry rag. This step really makes it POP! You might also want to flick specks of the Barnwook Wax onto the surface, further enhancing the look. The final Top Coat of Gloss Clear Coat is added. We use 2 coats for the best proction. Adding additional coats can be done and as your counter top ages, you can refresh them with a quick coat of Gloss Clear Coat! Enjoy!

Will this work on bathroom countertops?! They aren't laminate??
  • How can you clean! If I spill food or coffee on it and don't get to it right away, will it stain? Right now I use 409 to clean my counters. Thank you.

  • I did this on our counters and only did one side. I did everything the video showed but when I went to put the gloss top coat on it smeared the paint when putting it on with the brush first. It then looked nothing like the granite or stone counter top but a smeared mess. The only thing I did different was let the whole counter top dry longer than the video showed and on the instructions of the can, it says to dry for 4 days. Sanded the whole counter top down, ordered new product and let the back splash cure for 10 days before putting the top coat on. Still smeared!!! Very disappointed in the whole thing and wasted almost $200 dollars on the product because I had to order more to finish it! What do I do now??
