I, too, wash them every 2 weeks. I wash the blankets & mattress pad monthly.

  • My sheets get changed after 2 nights, BUT I am menopausal. And wash the matress pad and blankets every 2 weeks, sometimes more often. Plus I have an extra "dog blanket" on the bed as the pups sleep with me so that gets changed every other day. Needless to say I have lots of dog blankets so that I can run full loads of wash. My bath towel gets tossed in the wash every 3 or 4 days as I take a quickie rinse off shower at night before hopping into bed after a quick vacuum and washing the kitchen floor every night.

The answer is... there is no "once and for all" answer.

But like everything else, it's in the details. Consider buying a dark sheet set, such as deep maroon, forest green, or brown. Better yet, get those colors in flannel. Put them on your bed and you will quickly decide "your own - once and for all".

But, here is how I made decisions on bedding over the years.

    It's all circumstantial.

Circumstance: Moms didn't work outside the home

I grew up with white sheets and pillow cases billowing in the wind on the clothesline out in the backyard...once a week, faithfully!

So, back in the day... it was once a week.

Circumstance: Moms had to work while the kids were growing up

Once I became a mom, I occasionally (more-often-than-not ) cheated and let it go 2 weeks (barring accidents of course).

So, during that time...it was twice a month.

    Circumstance: Apartment living

You don't get to decide. How often is decided by laundry room availability; if you have enough quarters, soap and dryer sheet; how often you could get on the machines; and finally, if you could get it done in the time allotted (always rules).

So during that time...once a month if at all possible.

MORAL OF THE STORY IS: OWN MORE THAN ONE SHEET SET; CHANGE IT AS OFTEN AS YOU LIKE; WASH WHEN IT IS CONVENIENT FOR YOU, AND DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF.

I buy two sets of same quilt cover if it goes with the curtains. Then I change every week to ten days depending on our British weather, I have no tumble dryer. I wash my towel every other day. I love the fresh feeling I get when I get in a freshly changed bed.

I buy one set of sheets and wash them every Sunday. When they start to look worn, I buy a new set. This way I don't have to store extra sheets. I take a quick shower and remove my makeup before going to bed. I wash my blanket and quilt every two weeks, unless they get really dirty in between.

    Every week for me!!!

Humans shed skin calls at a rate of 500 million per day, according to the American Chemical Society. So if you spend a third of your day sleeping, that means 166 million could end up in your bed every night.

Now consider the bodily oils, sweat, and dirt that rub onto your sheets as you sleep—and with them, a host of bacteria and other microorganisms. The good news: Most of these bugs aren’t harmful, but they begin to multiply the longer you use your sheets.

If you give bacteria enough time to build up, your washing machine will have a tougher time removing them, says Sally Bloomfield, an honorary professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Some of the other nasty germs you can easily pick up and spread to your sheets—like cold viruses, or fungi like athlete’s foot—can survive for many weeks without a host, says Bloomfield. That’s why she also recommends the wash-once-a-week rule.

I have a king size bed, sheets are not cheap but I do have 3 sets. I will change out once a week then wash when all sets are dirty. Blankets ( if used) and mattress cover are about the same time as sheets. Just one big laundry day!

I agree with Denice,I put on clothes every day right, when I take it off its covered with my dry skin, yuck! I wash once a week and linens on high and long and try not to place to many together, then I dry on high heat. I wash clothes after I have worn once so jeans get a wash sometimes twice in same week. I love getting into clean sheets. I never use a dish cloth, that's gross. I use paper towels many rolls a week because that's what you find in every bathroom as well. I wash liner every two weeks. I figure machine does work not me. I have four men in my house 1 H 3K! They wash their own things so minimum of 30 loads a week. I love white because you can bleach. While sheets getting washed vacuum mattress. It's like sitting in at tub, I don't want to sit in my dirty water, why would anyone want to do that or do they shower first? And if your married multiply that figure by two, look up dust mites and you'll find time to wash more often. Have more than one set for each bed so it can be vacuumed and made and ready for that night. Mostpeople get up to run why not put sheets in then and when you get back vacuum mattress then shower. You can wash while cooking dinner or while sitting watching tv. You can find time if you want to. I have a DW so I don't use dish rag, I do nuke sponge and I have to hardly use it but I do change regularly cause that's also gross. If you have allergies you have to shower and wash hair everyday because that pollen sticks to it and you should put on lounge wear for evening that clothes needs to be washed or taken to cleaners after once. They also need whites to bleach as much as possible.

I think it depends more on your preferences, some wash them about every week. I think once in two or three weeks will be quite adequate for cleanliness. I wash my linen sheets every two weeks
