Painted Embroidery
This time I worked with a nice pair of nightstands, but I wanted to give them energy, a new life through color.
I usually keep images I like, even if I don´t know what I can use the idea for at the moment. Then, in situations like this, I go back to this library of ideas for inspiration.
This is an image from the web. I kept it not for the armoire but for that fantastic wallpaper. I loved those giant flowers and decided this would be inspiration for my nightstands.
I looked for more flowers like those ones and found there is a kind of embroidery that works with similar flowers with different stitches. It is called Jacobean. I collected a lot of images of the flowers and of the stitches, and had another idea about how to paint them: why not imitate the embroidery stitches with brushstrokes?
I cut two pieces of paper of the size of door + drawer and started drawing my design. I wanted two different tables but in harmony. Once I was satisfied with the drawings I transferred to the doors.
I had already painted doors in light blue. By rubbing a pencil on the back of the paper and then outlining the flowers from the front, I could transfer the whole image perfectly.
Started painting as I said, trying to imitate stitches with each brushtroke. Have a look at other parts:
After doors and drawers were ready, I painted the body of my nightstands in a rich magenta color. And look at them now!
