I'd get some strands of lights and not light the candle at all. Just have it for looks. Too much chance of the wind blowing some pine over the flicker of fire. They go up so fast.

Another option is to use battery operated flicker type fake votives. They "burn" a long time and there is no danger of fire. I have purchased them rather inexpensive at the discount stores.
