With an upcoming new bundle of joy, and my penchant for shopping online, we needed a sign at our entry to kindly turn away unwanted solicitors and ask for no knocking or doorbell as we need it (but never turn away the Girl Scout cookies of course). I didn't want a sticker anywhere and wanted something that looked nice so I dug through my scrap wood pile and came up with this free-standing post that will do the job nicely!
I started out by making my little chalkboard out of some leftover picture molding and a scrap piece of 1/4″ underlayment then glued together.
I used my nailgun to put two scrap 4x4" pieces together and give the post a little more dimension, then nailed on some quarter-round at the bottom.
After filling my holes and sanding, the stand got a coat of my favorite outdoor solid stain so it'll hold up outside.
A simple plant hanger and some twine is all I needed to hang the sign on the post and it was done! Since it's a chalkboard we can easily write whatever message we need to on it. I think it looks really nice and filled in some of the open space around our door nicely.
