Valentine’s Day DIY: Lettered Canvas Art

Modern Masters
by Modern Masters
There are many ways to show your love on Valentine’s Day and one is to create a custom canvas art with a sweet sentiment that will be treasured forever. See how easy it can be to create this DIY with heart from Debbie Hayes of My Patch of Blue Sky.
Supplies Needed:

-Modern Masters Pearl White Metallic Paint

-Modern Masters Texture Effects

-One Gallery-wrapped style canvas, any size, pre-primed

-One Romantic Valentine’s Day phrase like ours:

“If I had to live my life again, I’d find you sooner.” An online search reveals

lots of options, or you can even write your own.

-Painter’s Tape, Paint Brush, Small Trowel or Palette Knife, Container,

and Sandpaper
Debbie created her custom quote on a Cricut machine using a heavy, adhesive-backed material. She then cut and pasted the letters to fit her canvas. Feel free to use mylar or even a vinyl stencil as well.

Next she arranged the wording on top of the canvas in a style that she liked. To protect the surrounding areas, she taped the words into place. Be sure to burnish the words carefully so they adhere tightly to the canvas - preventing leakage underneath. You can use your fingernail or even an old credit card.
Next, Debbie used a palette knife to gently smooth a thick coat of Texture Effects over the words, making sure that all of the words were covered evenly. Now, while the Texture Effects is drying, gently remove the lettering and tape to reveal the embossed letters. On detailed letters such as an "o", you may need to use a toothpick or something sharp to help remove the centers.
Once your letters have completely dried, lightly sand the letters to remove any sharp or raised edges. Now you are ready to apply two coats of Pearl White Metallic Paint over the entire piece - letters and canvas.

The great thing about Texture Effects is that it is self-priming, so open up a that shimmery metallic paint and go to town. Once both coats have completely dried, you can easily display it on a mantle, bookshelf, or anywhere where a bit of dramatic lighting shows off the sentiment to your loved one.
We hope we've inspired you to create something personalized this Valentine's Day. This DIY is also great year round for a motivational phrase you'd like to put onto canvas! See more on this post via the link below.
