DIY Outdoor Wooden Lanterns

DIY Passion

Every month, I take part in a really fun DIY Challenge and this month my blogger friends and I were challenged with creating something using 1x2 lumber. You can find it pre-finished or un-finished at the hardware store or lumber yard and they cost next to nothing! I've been dreaming of summer days on the patio, sooo....I created something with that in mind!
I decided to build outdoor lanterns. First things first, I built the lantern platform by fusing two pieces of 1x6 scraps with my Kreg Jig. (For full building dimensions etc, see the link in my blog post below!) The Kreg Jig is one of my favorite work shop tools.
Then, after making all the cuts (the lanterns are 1x6s, 1x2s and 2x2s for the most part), I assembled my 'lanterns' with wood glue and my brad nailer. I made sure to use 2" brad nails to ensure the joints were super strong.
I let it all dry overnight and then had to finish them off. At first, I was going to stain them - but I ended up being a bit daring and painting them matte black! Our patio cushions are black and white, so I think once the summer comes along and these are outside, they will look dynamite!
Once again, for full details (including a cut list etc.) check out my blog post! Thanks for reading!
