When we bought our cottage, much of the furnishings were included. There are some nice pieces and we've been enjoying their use for over four years now, but many of the darker furnishings have been updated to brighter, 'beachier' colours, which suit the ocean setting so much more. This tufted chocolate brown ottoman/coffee table was too dark for my taste, so I decided to cover it and paint the legs and relocate it to the guest room, where it is used as a bench.
Here it is. Not ugly, nothing wrong with it either, but just not something that made us feel like we were at the shores of Nova Scotia, Canada. (btw, that dark rug got tossed and replaced with something so much brighter and lighter!)
I forgot to take pictures of the reupholstering process, but it was very easy. I had removed all the legs, flipped it on its back and measured out a lovely fabric that I layered with a polyester fill to hide the dips from the tufted surface. Once it was stapled all around, I reattached the legs and then painted them.
I used Crooked Label white chalk paint, distressed the legs and then waxed them.
This fresh and vibrant bench is now used in our guest room. I love it now!
