I had the same problem, but it was much worse. I tried everything I could think of with little success. I finally sprayed the mold/mildew with a bathroom mildew remover (Tilex, X-14, or any cleaner specifically for mildew). You can also use straight bleach. After killing the mildew, I let the door dry thoroughly and then painted it with Kilz to make sure nothing bled through. I then bought paint and an additive that is supposed to prevent or at least retard mildew. The additive is usually available wherever you buy your paint. Just stir it into the paint. This should take care of your current problem. However, you need to find the cause of the mildew because not only is it unsightly, it is extremely hazardous to your health. It may be excess moisture somewhere, poor ventilation, or something else. It can be particularly dangerous for babies and young children, and can cause serious health problems for anyone with a compromised immune system. Call your local health department or a real estate agency for a list of inspectors. Hope this helps. God bless you and yours!

    Where is that door?

That top post is right on. You must figure out what is causing the problem. There are mildew killers at the hardware sore. Bleach only gets rid of it temporaily. Kilz is great.

Check your bathroom fan, it may not be drawing much. Do you have a lot of house plants? They give off water. Do you live in a humid area? You might need a dehumidifier. Does your neighbor have a pool? We had terrible mold on our bedroom wall because the pool next door had a leak. What is below that door, ground or basement? They can install vapor barriers under your house. You may need soffit vents. Check the attic up above the door. The mold is only a symptom, figure out the cause, it can make you really ill! Kids especially.

We had a huge leak under our house which caused mold to form (of all places) inside our double paned glass windows on the vinyl part. I used 1/2 bleach and 1/2 water. This is really strong so use gloves. If you have any breathing problems like me (asthma) use a mask too. I washed the area with this solution, then let dry. I did this even though there was no more visible sign of mold for three days in a row. Then for 3 more days, I sprayed the window vinyl areas with Lysol spray. NO more mold...it even smelled clean. If the mold has caused a permanent stain, you can wait until totally dry then repaint. Hope this helps you.

Bleach will only clean surface mold. What bleach actually does is BLEACH it so it looks gone. Make certain to use a mold/mildew specific product.
