How do you get rid of gophers?

A windmill. Either purchased or home made. The vibration scares them away. Works for any underground burrowing rodent. When I bought my house 16+ years ago, the house had been occupied for over two years. I Googled (like I do for everything), and found that to be the best solution. I tried a no kill trap, but that would take forever. Checked out local farm suppliers and they wanted far too much money so my wonderful ex hubby took a good look at them and he made me one out of stuff we had laying around. Took a bit but it worked. We have dogs so poison was not an option for us either.

Unwrapped unchewed with bait they digest both and can't deficate the gum and the poison kills them. Sorry not so humane.

At this point I can't be too nice. Another alternative is a killing device called the black box.

Our yard looked like a minefield, tunnels all over, sprained ankles just walking there. Had top three inches of soil temporarily removed, put down small chicken wire screen all over the yard. Replaced dirt. Deeper than three inches and they'll come above the screen. NO MORE GOPHERS!! Used gopher baskets in ground to plant plants. That ended the problem. It's been years..no gophers.

The only other way to get rid of gophers is to move.

I fought gophers for years when I lived in California. I tried it all--gum, car exhaust, traps. This is what worked best. Half inch hardware cloth on the bottoms of all raised beds, gopher cages for in ground plantings (you can make your own out of aviary wire). Wire cages must protect both sides and bottom of root system and come up above ground level. The best trap was the Cinch Trap--follow the directions exactly. I also found that watering once a week with diluted fish emulsion seemed to keep them a bay. If your situation warrants find a Rodenator service (rodenator.com). Heads up, Rodenator is extreme. Thanks for the ideas. I mainly have them in my yard which is in the country in Oklahoma. Of course they are in the pastures & fields too. Also in a housing addition which is close. They have just seemed worse this year.

You might try an spraying the ground with an emulsion of castor oil. Supposed to work for moles. They don't like it and leave. For a while, anyway. I say pizzen 'em.....

We do not how gophers but we had moles. 3 years ago, I paid about $25 for a device from a garden centre that looks a little like a solar lantern. It emits a sound that the little critters underground do not like. I haven't had any mole issues since. The rabbits, squirrels and birds are unaffected by the sound waves. Best of luck.

If you or if you know anyone who has snakes, keep the skin when they shed and place a good long piece in each in hole. They won't be back. Tried and true!
