Art Made From Plastic Bags? You Might Be Surprised.

You might think that left over plastic bags are only good for recycling but my sister founder of HFR Designs has found some pretty amazing alternative uses for these pervasive household items.
Recently I helped her make this time lapse video of one of her wall hangings that will appear in her art exhibit "AWAY" at the Loveland museum. Sorry for the crummy photography that was my contribution. :-)

There are lots of videos on line that show how to fuse plastic so I won't include that here. And of course you don't have to make such elaborate artwork. One of the really great things about the fused plastic is it can be cut and sewn like fabric so the possibilities are endless as far as what you can do with this material.
One year for Christmas I made these simple tree decorations. I just fused some layers of plastic bags and then cut out the shapes and sewed them together.
The picture below is a tote that my sister made for me. Fused plastic is surprisingly strong and very light weight so it is great for bags and purses.
This final photo is "The Kiss" HFR Designs adaptation of Gustav Klimt's famous painting re-imagined and constructed from plastic bags.
I hope you found some inspiration here to re-think plastic bags and what you can do with them.
