From the Office Space to the Kitchen Space

after spending countless hours surfing the web for the perfect kitchen island with a very small budget, left me with very little to choose from. So I decided to make my own and off I went to hit all the second hand stores. SCORE!!

Found an old solid wood desk and also butcher block table top. Purchased both for $70.

Removed the top of the desk and moved it to the bottom for a platform for the island, attached the butcher block top and added bun feet to bring the island to counter height. I also removed drawers from one side of the desk.

I cut wood for shelves on the one side and center To cover opening where the drawers were, I added an old cabinet door to the front. I then covered the back and sides with tongue and groove Bead board and then painted with a navy blue and gray.

Added a towel rack that used to hang on the wall and new drawer pulls.

How did you remove the top of the desk, especially without damage? I have a desk just like that. Thanks
