Tip: Beautiful Refrigerators We Create

As far as I'm concerned, refrigerators are a big blank hole. It may be covered with magnets and post-it notes. We can get them in many colors, shapes and sizes. But it's still a blank eye.

Take that eyesore and make a magnificent statement.

This dinged and dented textured fridge came at a very low price. Yippee. I knew I could make him shine.

Using a Bonding Primer I painted the entire surface after sanding.

Using my custom chalk paint, I painted the surface flat black.

The damask stencil was created using a gloss black.

My goal was to make this refrigerator look more like a French armoire. This needed depth. Using flat 1/2"x3" wood, I glued them onto the sections I wanted to seperate.

The sections were decopouged with a black and cream tissue paper. Then antiqued.

Some of my favorite paints are from Modern Masters Metal Effects Paints.

Using several damask stencils I added 3-D Hard Rock Putty designs. When dry, I sand and paint them with the iron effects paint.

Inside the rusted corners, I added a copper patina which turns aqua. The knobs come from Hobby Lobby

Have you ever done anything to beautify your fridge??

This is such a good point! I usually just put my kids' drawings on it, but I'm going to put more thought into it!

I also have a textured refrigerator and wondered about a reno on it. Did you hand sand the surface of it or use a sander?

    • SK on Elderberry SK on Elderberry on Feb 21, 2017

      Hi Janet.

I used both. The sander was used for large areas and I hand sanded the hard to reach areas.

      Thanks for joining in.

Wow! I love it! I was thinking of just getting one of those magnetic fridge stickers that are so nice but they are expensive! I like your idea even better.

      Thanks Sperry,

Magnets wouldn't take as much time, but you would never get a personal touch that you alone could create.

      Good luck and have fun.

OMGoodness! I am so jealous, I live in an apartment and wish I could trick mine up.

You can do so much with a ho hum frig that's not permanent.

I have used beautiful decals. Custom and store bought vinyl decals can be removed with ease.

Have some fun and make your own refrigerator stand out.

Thanks Iris Pack. PS. I live in Bonners Ferry. Small world.
