Cut yourself a pattern from another valance or just about anything that your little heart can imagine or come up with. The possibilities are simply limitless!
. I am posting this project to show you how to copy just about anything you want. I use this same idea to copy clothing also. Make your own pattern from other items.

this is the vallance my customer wanted duplicated. She bought a vallance that she liked but the fabric did not match her kitchen as closely as she would have liked so she asked if I could help her out by creating one from fabric she would purchase and then copy the pattern from the purchased vallance. The following post resulted.

it has a trim she liked and wanted it to be in her own choice of fabrics.

I have used clear plastic drop cloth for so many projects, I can't count the ways! I layed clear plastic drop cloth on top of the valance and weighed it down with pattern weights. Using a magic marker, I marked the edges and seam allowances.

I needed to cut bias fabric for the edges of the scallops to copy this look.

I laid the valance on top of her fabric to measure the fabric I would need.

This is how the scallops on the pattern looked after tracing the vallance.

I laid the fabric out so I could cut two at once and have them match perfectly.

The scallop is now ready to be bound with the bias I cut. I forgot to photo this step. sorry.

This is the pattern for the contrasting scallop that will be at the bottom of the valance.

Instead of the stripe that was on the original valance in the first picture she was wanting to replace it with the solid fabric shown below.

I sewed the contrasting bias binding into the scallops

Here is what it looked like finished!
Suggested materials:
  • Fabric was given to me
  • Clear drop cloth

This a brilliant idea! I'm thinking this could be applied to lots of different projects....like tracing a coloring book page then using the pattern for cutting an applique piece. Thanks for sharing your brilliance.
