Faux Flowers Six Ways - #4 Eight Petal Felt Flower

This is the first type of faux flower that I ever made and it is my favorite. Most of the time, I use all eight petals but sometimes I stop at seven. These flowers look great on wire stems and also on wreaths. I start with squares of felt and randomly (without a pattern) cut out petal shapes. They are all different and I think it makes the flowers more like natural flowers when the petals are slightly different.

I start with 2 inch squares of felt and I cut petal shapes. Each one is slightly different and that is ok. Cut eight petal shapes.

For the flowers' centers, I use scrap pieces of felt. Sometimes I put a pom pom in the very middle. I use a 1 inch by 4 inch piece of scrap felt. The above centers are made by folding the felt in half and cutting on the fold. About every 1/4 inch or whatever looks good to you.

The center of this flower is a thin strip of rolled felt and I make the outer center by cutting on the open side. Which creates a fringe around the felt rolled center.

I take each petal and run felt glue across the bottom, pinch it together to form a pleat and secure it with a hair clip to dry.

This is the type of felt glue that I used.

I do the same for all eight petals and allow them to dry.

To form the flower, I find it easiest to use hot glue. I equally space four petals around the center.

I tried felt glue first but decided for this step that hot glue worked best.

With four petals glued into place, I begin the next layer offsetting each petal with the first four.

All eight petals are in place. Now you can put it on a wreath, headband or a picture frame. Where would you put felt flowers if you were creating spring decor?

Here are different colors and centers. Just changing these options, really changes the look of the flower. On my Facebook Live with Hometalk (February 27 at 5pm est), I will give more details about the stems and leaves. Those leaves began as white felt.

It could be a great way to personalize someone's Easter basket or a cute decoration on a gift basket for a neighbor or for Mother's Day.

And if you are the type of person that likes a bit of whimsy in your decorations, how about a cute face on a wooden bead as the center?
Here is a felt flower, that I splatter drip painted.
