Faux Flowers Six Ways - #5 Rolled Felt Flowers

This tutorial isn't a new way of making faux flowers but I think it is one of the prettiest and easiest ways. With the rolled flowers, you can embellish wreaths, picture frames, headbands and more. All you need is felt, a large circle (like a cd), pencil, scissors and hot glue. It doesn't get much easier than this.

Use something as a template to draw a circle on your felt. I use a pencil to mark it lightly. I usually use a cd but I saved these cardboard packing circles and they worked out great. I love repurposing things.

Don't worry if your felt is wrinkled. It won't show in the end.

Cut out your circles.

Starting at the outside edge begin cutting a spiral to the middle of the circle. The width of your spiral will be how tall your flower is. Mine was roughly a half inch.

Almost done in this picture. Keep going until you have just a tiny circle left in the middle.

Here are the two completed. I don't worry about being perfect. Nature isn't perfect.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to roll felt flowers. Some begin with the outside edge of the felt and roll all the way to the middle and some begin with the inside (like the one on the right) and roll, using the felt working your way to the outside. When they are completely rolled, I add the glue to the bottom. Since they are felt, they hold together pretty well.

I usually add a felt circle to the bottom but this is not necessary. I haven't attached the leaves yet because I am adding these to a picture frame and will add the leaves at that point.

The end result is fairly similar. The one of the left was using the outside to inside approach and the one on the right was the inside to outside approach. It is a matter of personal preference.

I love to add some interest to my white felt. In the above picture, two of the leaves have acrylic paint mixed with mod podge splattered on them. Where would you put rolled felt flowers.
