I have always been paranoid of dryer fires and, especially, when I lived in a home that was built in 1880 that was all wood. It was an historic property and I would've died on the spot if anything had happened to it on my watch. Before I lived in that home, I always and I mean "always" emptied the dryer filter and scooped any errant lint from the opening. I was also fortunate to be able to easily clean the outside of the venting area where the hose exited the house. Still can in the house we live in currently. I would venture to guess that our dryer hose, vent and filter are nearly devoid of any dangerous lint and fibers. Just my fire paranoid self on guard at all times. It's best to be cautions than cleaning up.
