Any ideas on covering glue on ceiling tiles?

The most inexpensive route is to prime & paint the tiles (you could use sand in the paint for a textured look). If you want to cover it and change it up, white beadboard would look awesome. Best of luck.

There is a product called Astana white foam ceiling tiles that has been talked about on hometalk. I've never used it but it gets good reviews. The tiles can be applied right over your existing ones and painted. Amazon has it, so you could check it out if you wanted. Good luck.

Natural bead board!

For a rustoc look, you could go with a plank ceiling look. Natural, or white/grey washed. I know wood can get expensive, but the thinner the planks the better. Or you can often get palettes for free on Craigslist for a similar look.
