Turn Those Drab Terra Cotta Pots Into Farmhouse Fab in Minutes!

Just about everyone has those drab orange terra cotta pots on hand in their potting shed, on a ledge or in the garage. But did you know you can turn those drab terra cotta pots into fabulous farmhouse style decor in minutes!

I just love the simple, clean look of white decor. White candles, white candlesticks, white picture frames, white trim and even white terra cotta pots!

This is one super easy project that anyone can do! And if you're looking for an inexpensive way to add farmhouse charm to your decor, this project is it! Or maybe you'd like a quick handmade housewarming gift, Mother's Day gift (it's just around the corner) or an earth-friendly sustainable gift.

Gather your terra cotta pots - big or small, it doesn't matter. This technique will work with any size pot!

Supplies:

Terra Cotta Pots and Trays
Painter's Tape (optional)
Spray Primer
Spray Paint

After you've gathered your pots and trays, be sure to clean any debris, dirt, etc. from the outside of the pots first. If you have to wash the pots, be sure to let them dry completely before proceeding.

If you don't want paint to get on the inside of your pot, you can simply use some painter's tape to tape off the area.

Also, to make this project a little easier, I used a spray primer first. The terra cotta is a very absorbent material, so using the primer helped with having a more even coating of paint and using less paint.

Apply the spray paint in an even and light coat. Wait for the first coat to dry and then apply a second (and possibly third) coat as needed. You want to keep your coats light as the paint will run if you put it on to heavily.

Don't forget about the bottom of the pots and trays!

Once you have the finished look, your pots are ready for planting. I planted herbs in my pots and have them sitting in my kitchen window. But, you don't have to plant herbs in your pots. They make a great home for succulents, too! Actually, you can plant just about anything in your painted terra cotta pots.

In fact, I have a Christmas Cactus planted in one of my painted terra cotta pots and it is growing like crazy!

I just love the look of the crisp white pots and they add the perfect amount of cheery and bright farmhouse charm without being too rustic.

Once your pots are dry, you're ready to plant! I have fresh herbs planted in my shabby chic, crisp white, farmhouse fab pots and I absolutely love them! They add so much cheer to a space and are the perfect backdrop for my herbs.

If you like a little more color in your decor, you can choose any color of spray paint or even try multiple colors or geometric shapes. Just use your painter's tape to make the designs or tape off areas to be painted. Be creative! Have fun! And let your style shine through!
