CAT SCRATCHER WITH TWEETY MICE

I guess I'll start at the beginning, when my son-in-law brought me a weird piece of wood, last autumn and told me maybe you can make something with it. It's been laying around now for a few months, Tried as I might, I could not think of anything worthy of this great piece of nature, that would do it justice and be useful, or maybe decorative. Now this week-end it came to me...hope you enjoy it, certainly a lucky cat will.

I had already cleaned the piece months ago

And this is what it looked like once I cleaned it. Pretty drab not very inspiring

Once I deceided to make a cat scratcher, I treated it with my special oil that is safe for pets and children.

It was really encouraging to see all the beauty in the piece of wood.

The rope was not big enough, so I braided it to make it stronger. I was satisfied and it loked so much more refined and stronger. If you pull on it once in a while it end up very tighly wound.

As I started wraping it around my wood, I thought of the leopord jute material I had purchased for a futur project, and cut a few stips to give my scratcher more class. I left some hanging rope so that later I would be able to attache stuff on (had no idea yet) but at least the strings were there.

At the back I screwed 2 little eye hooks for the hanging cord. I passed wire through them and secured the rope.

Next I went shopping for cat toys that I could attache to my scratch pad, I found Mice and some even tweet like little birds, and they have feather wings. I just could'nt resist those and they tweeted all the way home (20 miles) now if this does'nt keep some cat happy I don't know what will. Also found tiny tassels and braided fake hair pieces.

I also found other tiny mice and glued one on as if he was climing up to the eye of the wood.

You can hang it on a door knob or the knob of a cabinet.

This is more like the finished color of my cat scratcing pad. You could always give it a special place to hang on the wall, near his cat bed. Hope you enjoyed it?
