Recently I used towel to dry off from a dip in sulfur pool but even after two washes in the washing machine, the putrid rotten egg smell persists.... any ideas anyone out there in hometalk land?

Not sure exactly how to handle this one, but I would try Arm & Hammer laundry detergent with a cup of white vinegar in the wash cycle, maybe several washes. Could try a small amount of Dawn Dish Soap in the wash cycle. (Took oil off wild life!) If all else fails, discard them and purchase new ones. One last thing, I love Suavitel fabric softener in the Morning Sun scent (yellow container). It's so refreshing and not overwhelming.

Just a thought, but fabric softener makes your towels smell nice and feel soft. But it will make them less absorbent. This is because that softness you feel is a thin coating of oil on the fibers (oil repels water making your towels less useful for actually drying anything). I never use fabric softener on towels or sheets for this reason.

ZUM LAUNDRY DETERGENT W/LAVENDER SCENT TOOK SKUNK ODORS OUT OF MY CLOTHING. TOOK 2 washes, but it worked great for me.

I think it may be your washing machine if your towels weren't remove right after washing. Did 1/4 c white vinegar to the softening tray and wash as usual.
