Colorful Flower Planter Ideas for Sun

3 Materials
I love early spring and the thought of filling our empty containers with pretty flowers again. What I don't really love is wandering up and down the nursery aisles, wondering what flower combinations to use, without breaking the budget!

So I found 16+ colorful planter ideas I share on the blog, all in unique containers from urns or metal buckets to hanging baskets that use standard garden center offerings like alyssum, sweet potato vine, geraniums, lobelia, and more.

Every pot shown also includes the flowers used so you can make a list of your favorites, the amount you need for your containers and, bam! - spring flower shopping just got easier.

Read on for a couple of tips you can use to get the most out of your planters!
Choose plants with different leaf textures, but all in the same or coordinating color family (here it's purple with white accents). This will help your planters look professional.
Save money with smaller plants in "6-packs" and "4-packs."

The pots pictured above is an example of just how fast those small 6-pack flower starts grow when they're planted right - in just two weeks they filled out as you can see. In another couple weeks, you wouldn't even be able to tell them apart from more expensive 4-inch or larger pots!

This is just a sampling of the planter ideas - but you can see some repeats here like creeping Jenny and the small petunia-like blooms of calibrachoa. Visit the blog, An Oregon Cottage, for all the examples and flowers used, and happy planting!
