Diatomaceous Earth. You can buy it on Amazon and it is food grade and pet safe.

I also put some in my cats water. It gets rid of parasites. Or you can use tea tree oil that should work as well.

Ditto to the cinnamon trick. Just sprinkle it in areas where they have access to enter your home in order to keep them away.

You can mix borax and syrup and place in the trail of ants. It only really works with the sugar ants or called ghost ants, there very small and trail from outdoors to certain spots in your house. Be careful kids don't get into mixture.

Neither of these two remedies are "natural", but the only things I've ever found that work to get rid of the semi-annual invasion of teensy little water ants I get in my house.. Spray around the foundations outdoors with Home Defense. Indoors use Terro Ant Bait, it's a tiny bottle of gel, a drop or two on a small square of paper attracts the ants, they take it home and it destroys the entire nest. No sign of ants in about 24 hours.

At the first sign of ants, ans since I have pets in my home, I tend to use a fine line of chalk in my window frames and across the door frames. I also wrap the sugar bowl lids with plastic wrap. I haven't had an ant takeover in years!

Borax and sugar..it has even worked on the Carpenter Ants that had invested my Silver Maple in my front yard..I use it at the first sign of Ants when warm weather begins and it hasn't failed me yet

Like "DMK1007" said, use chalk. Plain good old blackboard chalk.

If you have pets, draw a chalk line around their food bowls .... ditto for indoor plants.

A friend of mine used this technique, and hasn't seen an ant in years.

It's also safe around children and pets.

    Good luck . . .

  • packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are coming in if you can find it, or even on your counter in a small lid. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.
