Shaving Cream Easter Eggs
With Easter right around the corner, I'm reminded of one of my most favorite childhood pasttimes - dying Easter eggs! This year, I'll be trying various methods with my own kids and this shaving cream method is easy and cheap! Now, who doesn't like that? Now, grab your eggs, a little dye and a cheap ol' can of shaving cream (not gel) and get started!
SUPPLIES:
- Shaving Cream (NOT Shaving Gel)
- White Hard boiled Eggs
- Food & Egg Coloring
- Paper Towel
- Toothpick
- Glass Dish
Step 1: Fill the bottom of your dish (about 1" high) with shaving cream.
Step 2: Smooth out the shaving cream with your hand.
Step 3: Put a few drops of food coloring into the shaving cream. You can use a few different colors if you'd like your egg to be multicolored.
I would suggest sticking to 2 or 3 shades maximum, or you'll end up with a brown or black egg.
Step 4: Using a toothpick, draw lines through the dye drops up/down and back/forth throughout the shaving cream.
Step 5: Roll your egg through the shaving cream .
Keep rolling - it's going to be quite messy and will be submerged with shaving cream and dye!
Step 6: Set aside your shaving cream and dye soaked eggs for about 5-10 minutes. They will start to dry up slightly.
Step 7: Take one of your eggs and rub off all of shaving cream remanence with a paper towel.
Your results will reveal marbled or tie-dyed style easter eggs! For more vibrant tones, I would suggest using neon food coloring. I opted for a more pastel look.
Fill your easter basket centerpiece with your eggs and have fun creating all different types of color variations. Happy Easter everyone!

Have a question about this project?
Did you end up with pretty pastel fingers and hands too?
I am guessing you cannot eat these ...?
Hi Julien, we did this tied dyed eggs, had fun, looked great! What can I do with them now? We did 24 eggs, now I have eggs with shaving cream on them. What do you do w/your eggs?
