Help- how can I make my fence look nicer?

I have a retractable fence that I keep up 90% of the time to help my dog sitter feel comfortable letting the dogs out and I don't like the way it looks with the concrete blocks but I need something stable to hold it in place any suggestions to make it look nice without making the fence permanent

Instead of focusing on the negative make it positive and make some container plantings based on you planting zone to take the eye off the fence.

Paint the concrete blocks. Fill the block holes with soil and plant some annual flowers and vines in them.

The above ideas are great, but if you're going to add plants inside the cinder blocks, make sure they're not climbing plants.

Being you take the fence down 10% of the time, vines would make that difficult. Small plants that don't grow too big would be perfect!

    Good luck . . .

It's a nice fence, remove the cinder blocks and put potted plants on the other side, maybe a few different colors with tall grasses, add a bench or a few garden figurines to break it up, Looks like a nice entry way but with the dogs you'll need to put it on the other side yet will be able to still see it...try clusters of three pots together of different sizes

A umbrella holder with rocks in the bottom, or a out door chair might be an idea for the puppy side holder for the fence yet could stay in place when you take it down. out door rug or door mat would look nice also.

  • I agree about planters. You can even buy little pots that hang over a fence. For small flowers.

Agree, I have a neighbor that doesn't like to work with plants so she uses, artificial ones for accents, they look very real from the street, as she is not an out door person. Some of the artificial ones are also very heavy. I see them all the time at Goodwill, and no sun or water needed.

If the fence can't be made permanent, and the blocks are working well, paint all the blocks the same colour for a cohesive feel. Then add co-ordinating planters, slightly higher than the blocks, planted with annuals, in the bare spots.

Love the pic with your dogs. I don't think the fence looks bad but it changed a clean area. Maybe you want to add some nice outside furniture in front of it or a swing. It would make a nice additional living space and it will look like it makes more sense if you put plants out there.
